I have an SD500 and I've been using a SanDisk UltraII, 2.0GB card. Just today, a "memory card error" showed up on the screen as soon as I turned the camera on. I have no clue as to what the problem is.:( I have scanned the intruction booklet, but haven't found the fix yet. Can someone out there please help me?:(

I would put the card in a card reader and format it, then try again. And get a good light and look to see if you have a bent pin in the camera.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried reading the card in my card reader, but I can't seem to access the card. When I use a different card in the camera, it words fine. I have checked the lock on the card, but it is in the unlocked position. What now?

What do you mean "Can't seem to acfess the card?" Do you mean it doesn't show up in your My Computer? If it does, try to format it. Look in all the holes in the card to see if there is anything clogging it. Otherwise, I will defer to someone with more expertise.

Yes. I cannot access the memory in the card via a card reader. I click on the icon that i usually click on to access the card reader, but nothing much happens.

Just got off the phone with Sandisk and they were very nice. They said that it takes very little to corrupt these cards. They are sending me a new one. I also took a look at some other web sites and it seems that I am not the only one with this issue with my camera and this particular card. Anyone have an idea as to what exactly is the cause?

it's magnetic media, and it's tiny, sometimes it just goes bad, could be a manufacturing defect or damage from handling, or a magnetic field, or the contacts are dirty or damaged. I've had several Smart Media cards go bad after time, I lost some photos, ever since then i've been skeptical of really large cards or hard drives, i prefer to carry a few 520 cards rather than one 2MB card, because if that one goes, you've lost everything and you don't have a backup. I also try to download the photos ASAP rather than waiting for the card to fill up.

It's cool they offered to replace it, that's a good reason to pay for name brand memory, it might still have problems, but at least they'll support it.

Was this problem ever resolved ? I am currently getting the same problem. I bought a new Sandisk CF card . But it still does not work. The camera does not even power on with the Card in the camera . Only when i remove the Card does the camera power on and then ocourse it gives the Memory card error.
