We've got a park in town called "Santee Lakes". I've lived in this part of San Diego for over six years, and I figured it was time to go in and take a look. Unfortunately, the sun was going down, the light was bad, and I got what I got:

The sun caught this one just right:

These two reminded me of two little kids who weren't sure if they could go in the pool:

This one doesn't really need any description, now does it?

This may sound odd, but I never imagined getting a shot like this "off the cuff". I just happened to be focused on this one when he decided to put on a show. My favorite shot of the day:

Not sure what kind of bird this is, but he had a pretty nasty attitude:

All were taken with the 70-200mm f/2.8 L, which I continue to dig more and more...

Agreed, that is one of the best duck shots I've ever seen it's very colorful and sharp, nice work!

Great shots... the last one is a Black-Crowned Night Heron.

I love the Heron best myself, I do like the first shot alot also, really love the reflection but find the light a little harsh. The bums up is quite cute lol, all in all great shots, well done and thanks for sharing them Steve

Good job Steve. It's about time you got over there. Keep your eye out for the albino wood duck, I'm not sure if she's still there or not. If you walk around all the lakes you can usually catch an egret or two, I've also spotted a green heron.

That first mallard doesn't look like a local, must be migration time!

Have fun at the airshow saturday!

Nice sharp, well composed captures. I assumed you got very close with the 200 mm lens. Well done.

Zach, there were a bunch of them there on Wednesday afternoon.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

I'm renting the 100-400mm for the Miramar Air Show (sorry you'll miss that, Zach) this weekend, and will be taking the lens down to the lakes on Sunday to see what I can find...
