You have timed this shot very well indeed. The attitude of the airplane suggests power and acceleration.

On the photo-technical side the image appears to have flaws.
The day was dull and the sunlight was diffused by the overhead clouds. This means that the background gave a higher exposure reading than one taken off the plane alone would give.
Situations like this call for special care in selecting the correct exposure.
Simply put, the photograph was taken exposing for the bright sky and this has underexposed the plane....
almost to the point where it shows as a silhouette.

Wow nice pic! Are you flying as well tasking that shot? I am assuming you must be,. and shooting through a canopy?

As eland said,. in a case like this where the subject itself is not the brightest thing in the viewfinder,. try setting the metering to "spot" or "Center weighted" so it reads the plane instead of the sky+plane. You also may want to try diferent white balance settings.

The timing was amazing. Great photo.

I wish i was flying along side of that, but unfortunately I was standing about 500 feet from it as it flew by. I was at a local airshow and it flew in to do a demonstration.
For whiste balance I used the Cloudy setting as it gave good results on shots the previous day. I do think I should have used another metering choice probably partial instead of matrix. Anyway at that speed it was very hard to follow. Thanks for the comments.
