I just made my first print using Office Depot Satin Gloss photo paper.

My initial reaction: This may be the best inkjet photo paper ever made!

My second reaction: For the price, it's sure tough to beat. I paid US$12 for 25 sheets of 8.5"x11" paper. That's about 40% less than the retail price of Epson ColorLife semi-gloss.

Okay, I've never tested the Epson archival papers with archival ink, but this OD satin paper is absolutely gorgeous. It has a very fine pebble-grain texture which I find appealing. No pooling of ink whatsoever, and no visible banding.

Straight out of the printer, the colors seemed a bit oversaturated and wet. Given an hour or so, the colors mellowed and are simply lush.

My printer is an Epson 780; I used ICM color management mode and printed an 8"x10" tiff file in PS. The media type was "Photo Quality Glossy Film" which is the recommendation that came with the paper. (Similar to the Epson ColorLife, again.)

Reportedly the Office Depot papers are made by NCR, but some have concluded that they are the same as Espon papers. If this is the same as ColorLife, there is another reason to be excited: The colorfastness is rated the same as Epson matte paper, which is significantly longer than their premium glossy paper.

Anyone else using this?

I noticed that they also have the highly-rated OD high-gloss available in 4x6" now - at about 25cents a sheet when you buy 100. Should be great for snapshots.

Can't remember the name of the paper right now but they use this paper when customers order photo calanders. This particular brand was 5 cents a sheet over the counter. The stuff on the shelf wasn't quite as thick and the finish not as good.
I haven't used the kind you mention Mitch but what this tells me is to ask about the paper they use from now on. It seems that it is better quality and cheaper to buy.

There appears to be two companies that produce Office Depot Paper,
NCR (it will say made in USA) and another unknown company (which will say made in Japan).

My speculation was the made in Japan paper might be made by Epson, because it had similiar color properties to the Epson paper in relation to Canon OEM ink.
