i just got my 10d 4 days ago and when i tried to install the software, it deleted pathways and NONE of my programs would work. I had to have someone come out and restore my files. anyway, now when I try and get images from my camera it keeps saying camera not detected. I hate to reinstall the software because it night delete stuff again. To get images I have been putting my cf card in my g3 and uploading them... does anyone have any solutions? I am using windows 2000 and I have plenty of harddrive. My computer is a dell thats lesss than 1 year old.
thanks!

Can't suggest anything with your computer other than having another go! You might also consider loading programs in a different order.... No, I don't really know what I'm talking about.

Anyway, I've never used my camera to download images. I have a card reader that costs about £12 and plugs in to a USB port. It is so easy. Windows has all the software you need to transfer images from the card to your hard drive. The tricky bit will be if either you want to operate your camera from the computer or if you shoot RAW. RAW files need coversion before you can work with them from the PC.

I had a canon ixus already on the puter, bought a G3 and made a separate folder for it in the canon files as I was concerned about any conflict and overwriting.

I had no problem installing but I did assign it to the folder I made, and only installed the stuff relevant to it - the drivers.

My OS is XP and detects either camera no problem.

An easy solution would be to not use the Canon software. I never do. You can download the images to a PC using Exploring Windows and view them the same way if they are JPEGs. To view RAW files you can use many programs including Adobe Camera RAW (with the hack described on Fred Miranda's site), PhaseOne, Thumbs Plus, or many etc.

I don't think the Canon software is very good.

I had a couple of problems with the software which came with my 10D when I first loaded it. Zoombrowser would open briefly when I double clicked on the shortcut, but would quickly go away. Also the program would not recognize my camera.

Make certain to designate the 10D as the default camera. You might also want to uninstall any Canon software previoulsy installed on your computer. Check to determine you have properly installed the 10D driver.

My Zoombrowser just started to work recently. Unfortunately, I have no idea what I did to make it start working.

It might be helpful to know what computer you are using and, if PC, what version of Windows you are using. My 10D software indicated it is designed to work with Windows XP.

I am using a Dell computer which has a great feature which allows you to restore the computer to a previous time. It will restore the computer exactly as it was at a previous time and date and correct any mistakes I make.

Maryanne-
I know exactly what you are trying to describe. I also had the same experience. What the other folks don't realize is that the basic Twain driver won't install.
The camera won't talk to the PC at all..because the driver won't install. As best as i have been able to figure out, Windows 2000 won't let the driver install- IF 2000 was an update- and not a fresh install of 2000. In otherwords, if you had win 98' and updated it to 2000, the driver won't work. I didn't try to fix this, I just bought a USB 2.0 card reader. The Canon software stinks anyway, so just go buy BreezeBrowser and be done with it. I don't like taking the CF card out of the camera every time, so next computer will talk to the 10D fine. Best of luck-
Bob

PS: Canon will NOT help with this one- I called them.

One more thing, get a card reader and use it to download from the camera. If you have a USB 2 port or a Firewire port on your PC it will be a lot faster than using the cable attached to the camera.

thanks everyone for replying. I do have windows 2000 and I am working on a pc. I think I will just use a card reader and use breezebrowser. I do not want to delete canon files because I still have my g3 which works fine with the software.
thanks a million!
