I have the older version of this lens, it has a built in hood. I like it very much. Contrast, color and sharpness are all there. Focus is fast. You can check out some pics with it here:

These were some of the first images I shot with it...so they probably could be better :)

EF 200 mm 2,8 L II is one of Canon's best lenses, to my view. And it is the longest tele before prices and weights 'take off' totally. I use it extensively on wildlife. Since it is so light I always have it with me. It is the ideal tool for photographing moose and deer from my car.
I also have a EF 300 mm 2,8 L, but this is far heavier and three times more expensive (even 2.hand) and this is used far less than the EF 200 2,8L II. It is too heavy to bring about.
I use the 200 mm with both a 1,4x and 2x converter and a 25 mm extender. With the 1,4x the results are 'superb', but a sligth fall in cotrast can be noted with the 2x. The 200 lense gives generally better results with converters than the 300 mm. With the 25 mm you have a tool covering small animals or large insects on ranges up to two - three meters.
The EF 200 mm 2,8 L II is also supurb for landscapes in the mountains were distances often are great. For this, use a polarizer. Equally, it is just as good as shorter teles for portraits with an elegant boque that leaves you with a calm background.
A supurb lense!
