I was out the back at my place today cleaning up when a big huntsman ran out from behind the hose. So I thought grab the camera.. I screwed on the macro and took a few shots. This being the best. Prety creepying looking thing.

what f/number did you have the camera on?... you've got a pretty shallow DOF here.... looks ever so slightly soft too (was it hand held.......... 1/60 seems kinda slow for that)

Sorry yeah was hand held.. That's probably why it didn't come out too good.. Still i got the head bit. Couldn't tell you the F number.. the camera won't show it with my manual macro ring on. I do know it's a shallow DOF.. Probably why it's so hard for me to get a decent focus. Shot with all 3 rings on with 100-300 shot in RAW on Av..

The problem with manual rings is that the camera will shoot with the widest aperture available. Hence the shallow DoF. What you could also try is upping the speed to over 1/100s with your flash.

Are these spiders as big as the wandering spider I showed earlier?

Nice shot. I think the shallow DOF works to emphasize the size of the spider.

They can get pretty big, but they're nearly all legs :-)

Yeah these spiders normallyget just smaller than your hand.. some are larger.. this was a bit smaller than average but was fuly grown. I also opened the basket where the pegs are stored on the clothes line and a baby one came out.. I don't mind them as long as they stay outside.

Thanks for your suggestion.. It was a sunny day so I dunno if the flash would have done much but i will give it a try.. I might have to invest in some auto tubes.. Thanks guys for your suggestions.

Shot with all 3 rings on with 100-300 shot in RAW on Av..

using the manual tubes every shot is gonna be either 4.5 at 100mm.......... or 5.6 at 300mm....... i always use flash for macro stuff...... even on bright sunny days..... because i usually have at least f/11...more often f/16-f/22.... also when you use tubes they lose a lot of light so flash is a good idea.............. it also enables you to get a higher shutter speed.............. i have shutter speed locked at 1/200 in av mode (using custom function 3).
i see you have a 430EZ, you should also look at an off camera cable. (your 100-300 on tubes is gonna be pretty long and the lens may cast a shadow onto your subject if you have the flash on the hotshoe)
