Very nicely done! I like the way the shirt matches his eyes. In the second pic he may be squinting a bit, but the first one is great. Nice DoF in both. What did you use?

I really need to get an 85mm 1.2 and a 50mm 1.4. Oh and a 5d. :)

I should have titled this thread "hot headshots." :)

Nice shoots, nice and sharp. But the only thing is I wouldn't have shot a balding guy from above his head.

Thanks a lot. I have that first shot cropped but I needed some shots that showed him for what he really is. I could only take the flattering so far. :)

one suggestion...depends on what you are going for but it can help to take away the bags under his eyes...it'll make him look younger...
Cheers,

I would normally do that but his bags aren't that bad. You're the first person who's mentioned them. You should see mine they're so much worse! :)
Again though, you can't really lie in a headshot.

Cheers,
This is the second place today in the forum that I have seen mention of removing bags under the eyes...all I am seeing is part of the face and human anatomy....I'm not a formal portrait guy so I guess I need to pay attention to this if others view it as a problem...Where does one start and stop in PP'ing a face? I quite often remove blemishes and stray hair if I find it offensive...but I'm not sure about changing anatomy..

I feel the same way for the most part. With glamour type shots its a must but sometimes its way worse than others.

I agree with you! If I take a picture of my teenage son and he has a "blemish" on his face that day I PS it. It is temporary and not a permanent part of him. I would not remove the laughlines around my husband's eyes, that is how he really looks and they show his sunny character (to me at least). So they stay. No mercy!
In the case of portraits of friends and more distant family I tend to be a bit more complementing.
If I take a picture of a stranger and that person will never see the photo I'm far more liberal. I'd change anything that makes the outcome more pleasing to my eye.
So it seems like the more distant my relationship to the model, the more freedom in editing is allowed.

He has great eyes and the B&W dosen't do him justice, eyes wise..But the B&W is very good for that photo..The color in his eyes is almost hypnotic...I'm still voting for the color shots,,and I can't choose between them...

Very nice shots! I agree with Peachman and Dazzlebea about the PS'ing features. The photo's look great as is. Especially if you are going for a casual look. You start PS'ing things out, it just doesnt look natural anymore. It will look more like a glamour shot if that makes sense.
Nice job!
