What do you think? Is it too contrasty?

Maybe a little bit, but I think it gives a gritty street feel that is appealing. Some areas need help, such as where the lid from his coffee cup blends into his hand, both blownout highlight areas. Also the shadow from the rim of his cap covers his eyes. But on whole it's very good, in my opinion.

As a sort of "Street Photograph" I realy like it.
I am not skilled in the area to comment -- but Mitch's observations make sense.
My initial reaction was the very positive to the scene and its street smarts... but.. I was a little less responive to the inkiness.
I liked the framing. In fact in a frame shop nearby they had put your squiggley outlines on the outside edge of the border. Then they framed a few inches back with a white matt (black interior).

I like the high contrast with one exception: The hands. They are wiped out. My suggestion is to treat the hands like a face when a photo contains them. They are an important expressive part of any portrait that contains them.
