First played second in the top division of Womens football in the UK. Charlton overcame Everton to go level on points at the top of the table. Here are a few of the images:

Bursting through the midfield...

You put your left leg in...

Where did she come from?...

Bracing for the tackle...

Yep she's got her eyes open...

Two on one just isn't fair, although it's best to avoid tackling your team-mates...

Something at 420mm just inside the area...

Now for the newsworthy stuff. The ball's in the roof of the net and Charlton have a late winner (I was pleased I had the 2x extender in the bag)...

...and celebrate in style...

Wow, I'm amazed at how clean the uniforms look in that last image (quite like the cricket boys) after all the action in the upper photos! After my recent American football go I am ever more respectful of your skill and talent (if that is possible!)

I just posted a Seal concert over in Urban Living if you fancy a change of pace from lassies footies! http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=105785

Nice Gavin, looks like the Everton ladies are fairing a darn sight better than their male counterparts ;) Where were these taken ?

Wow, I'm amazed at how clean the uniforms look in that last image (quite like the cricket boys) after all the action in the upper photos! It was a nice dry afternoon and the playing surface was (for a change) in perfect condition. There was certainly no lack of commitment as the tackles came in thick and fast... and some cultured football was played as well.

It's such a shame that the attendances at these matches are less than 1% of the crowds that watch the equivalent level of men's football in the UK!

Gavin - I would have to agree with you. I shot another ladies game on sunday, and they played just as hard and with as much intensity as the men. The big difference I have seen is that when there is a big collision, the women just get up and get back to the game where as the men have to chat it out for a bit. Anyway, its good fun shooting their games, I always talk them up to get people out...I think they would be surprised how fun they can me.

Now as to your 3rd shot - that is most unflattering. Somehow you just have a nack for capturing people in their finest moment.

It's not only in the UK that lady football is not attendant. Very good pictures and colours
What lens did you use? 70-200 2.8 or 100-400? Just wondering! ... ;)

Where were these taken ?Cheers Marc... Charlton play at Gravesend & Northfleet's ground which is a top notch (if slightly decaying) venue!

Good stuff, great timing, good composition, you catch the players emotion well and they are all as sharp as a blade!
Based on these few images I see on this post, you should try working your way into shooting the Premiership League!

I think I've spotted you mate, click here (http://www.thefa.com/Womens/PremierLeague/NewsAndFeatures/Postings/2005/10/FAWPL_Review_16Oct.htm) and watch the video. I saw a photographer at the Gravesend 'end'...

I've been there, it was a midweek game about ten years ago. We arrived early, parked up and couldn't find the ground so we sat in the car and had a close look at the A-Z and all of a sudden *BOOM* the floodlights came on right over our shoulder. We were in a lay by RIGHT alongside the main stand!

I guess the area right outside the ground has been transformed what with the CTRL passing right by??

do you shoot in RAW and convert to JPEG afterwards or is that a schoolboy errror style question? Thanks Dave... I shoot in jpeg 80% of the time as deadlines are generally very tight. However, I was in no huge hurry to submit these pics so I shot in RAW for a change. In all honesty, I ended up converting the pics applying my default settings anyway... but it did give me a little bit of control of the red channel which tends to blow first on the MkII if you're exposing to the right.

It also gave me the chance to have a couple of beers while the batch conversion was running...

Bizarrely, we were restricted to shooting from behind the goals, so I couldn't take up my usual sideline spot... I'm guessing the pics on the FA website are supplied by Empics as there was an agency photog there.

It's a ground full of character... but you're right, the area is changing dramatically. There are new industrial units nearby, a new bypass to Gravesend itself, a new road past the ground and construction work going on all over the place...

Seafood delights are still available from the whelk stall in the car park in front of the Plough pub though ;) :p

My game wasn't as glamorous as yours but I did our Ladies team Reserves v's Cam Bulldogs with one or two decent results....

And I know some people are dubious about the sexuality of female footballers, and some aren't the best looking but I can honestly say there was a real dog on the pitch yesterday.....

Geez, Tiger, I find that young female athletes, at least in field or court sports, are almost always the best looking lassies about ... but then I'm not particularly attracted to full bodied softness in a woman. :p

Superb work Gavin, not convinced by #2 though... are you trying to sneak some bizzare form of ballet into "sports" by photoshoping a ball in? :p I'll be watching ;)
