Taken in Sesimbra, which is a fantastic litle village were we can have great fish meal and a breathtaking view.

1/50s @ f/8; ISO 100; CPL; handheld with great care (crouched by a rock) as I was too lazy to carry the tripod.

Any comments are very much welcome.;)

OH MY! This is really special. No way in heck this was handheld.....you are rock solid for sure. Only one distraction. I'd clone out the red lights in the background right-center of the image. It just makes me want to stare at them instead of enjoying the rest of the image.

Well done!!

Spectacular shot, Jaime. I love the way you exposed the foreground.

Thank you Stan,

I did what I usualy try to do: measured the scene in several spots (AV) changed to Manual and remeasured the scene. Set it so I could keep at 1/50s ISO 100 (still in hope not to shake) and ended up with a compromise trying not to blow the highlights.

Sandi and Chrysalis,
Many thanks for your kind comments!

gmaize,
Many thanks for your comments. I appreciate them.
About being rock solid... the rock I was leaning on while crouching was "rock solid", I can assure you :lol::lol::lol:

Regarding the lights, I understand your point but I did not clone them as I thought they would help to push attention to the details in the distant shadows.
But I may be wrong. I'll have to think about that one a bit.

Thank you again!

Wow! Incredible shot. I love it!

I'd vote for getting rid of the red lights as well.

Thank you Kenny, The light's will come out after some thought. :D I'll just have to see how to do it carefuly not to have "lampless lamps" as they can be seen in the A4 print. I'll have a try tomorrow night.

Thanks again.

Hello Sajjad Yasin,
The red dots are lamps that are just turning on as the sun fades away.
They are sensible to light so they only turn on when the sun is gone (in the winter they can be lit during the day if the sun doesn't appear strong enough.
They are redish in the beguining and then they turn yellow.

Thanks for your comment.

In reality, I'm sure you haven't been seeing many of the amazing work done here by the crowd from who I've been learning. There's so much in here...

Thank you also for letting me know the first reaction you had when seeing the image, I appreciate it very much.

symes,
Thank you for your comments.
I only increased saturation by 15% but I pushed the contrast through burning and dodging selectively shadows, midtones and higlights as I wanted to enhance the contrast, while keeping detail.

I checked some images in your site and I think you have some great photos there. And your images are well satured, only I see you preffer less contrasty images. There's nothing wrong with that. It's only a matter of taste and it may change from one photo to another, depending on how you want to treat one particular image.

thanks again!

PEACHMAN, and dancad,
I'm flatered by your comments. Thank you guys.
I can assure you that being there was great. There was more people walking on the beach or just siting and watching the light and the ocean.
There's something divine in the sound of the sea, that unfortunatly cannot be translated into the photo.

JMAS

Here is the lampless photo and thought I could also play with a B&W version which took me more time then I thought as it required even more burning, dodging and some areas had to be lightened...

Thank you kaitanium,

you're right about the textures being important there, I think they are even more evident in the B&W version I added now.

Jaimie , for handheld i will say to you one word.......WOW.

It was "rockheld" , Dimitri.

One thing was good about that. If I had the tripod I would tend to have a longer exposure to allow a greater DOF seting the aperture down to f/11 or f/16, mirror lock-up and all.
I wouldn't be able to catch the water like that coming into the lower left corner. Probably wouldn't result as good.

I did have to straigthen the horizont at home, of course...

Beautiful, the colurs in the sky are great.

JMAS
18th of October 2005 (Tue), 20:02
Thanks for saying so, andydajo.

The colors are what they were but the polarizer enhanced them, contrast and levels adjustments did the rest, plus selective burning and dodging.

[quote=JMAS]Hello gmaize,

Indeed. I was hoping to see it that way. The very first thing I did was save it. It's time for a new wallpaper.......and this is going to be the one.

I'm glad you're getting such great response to this thread. You earned it.

Every once in a while I'll stumble into a share gallery and click on either the word Replies or Views, over on the right underneath "Search This Forum." Clicking on one of these sorts the entire forum, showing the thread with the most view or replies at the top. Then I go through the threads viewing the ones that I've missed in the past.

Man am I glad I did this tonight.

Jaime this shot is fantastic! I love the first color version, it's simply fantastic. Very nice job!

You missed this one? I should have send you a complaint
I promisse I will notify you next time I get a good one.
herrr... do not hold your breath...might take a while ;)
Seriously, thank you for letting me know you enjoyed it. You know I realy value your comments and advise.
It's one of those moments where you feel you don't have the propper tools and didn't take your time to think how to do it properly but it just comes through.
One good friend of mine who is also a photographer (wayyy better than me) wrote me a note when he saw this photo. It said : "This time, you have taken a piece of the world with you." He was encouraging me, of course, like you guys, but it did feel like he said it.

Thank you very much for taking the time to let me know your opinion, Scott.
