Which means you 'll be buying it next week. :D
Noooooooooooooo... don't say that. I'm already broke lol.
I'm doing extensive comparing with my 100mm so see how big of a difference there is. Till now.. same composition... The 100mm at f2.8 is like the 135mm at f4 in terms of bokeh.

That's very a interesting idea.
I own both of them.
Never thought of comparing them.
Doesn't matter, once you get the 135 on that 5D... your done. :D

BenjaminNG,
Great shot, due mainly to the interesting lighting. There are shadows on the faces but it actually adds to the realism to the shot rather than detracts from it.

True... But I mean it can't be that complicated to reduce the MFD... the Sony Zeiss 135mm f1.8 can do 1:3ish while the canon 135mm does 1:5.

Driving out of a small Maryland town near the Chesapeake late one night after a crab feast, I had to slam my brakes on and pull over when I saw this storefront. All I had was the 135L on my 50D and luckily the Manfrotto in the trunk. The town cop watched me carefully from a couple of blocks away as I trespassed a foot or two into someone's front yard across the street from the store. I might have composed it a little more carefully and would probably have been a better 50mm shot. It also looks a little soft now on my crappy work Dell, but sharp as a tack on my HP at home. Comments welcome

I guess this could work I just need to get an idea how it would look like on a cropper.

Doesn't matter, you should ask: how fast the camera shutter was shooting at [or what speed;)]?

I usually shoot at f/4 for the DoF and I think that's where it's the sharpest. I tweaked it in Lightroom to bring out the colors in the background.

Exactly, i feel this lens is the most sharpest wide open over another lenses, sure that 200 and 300 also sharp and many primes sharp wide open, but this lens is always sharp wide open maybe in all copies, but for example 50 some said their copies are soft wide open, so that i agree this lens you can shoot wide open [Blindly] and never worry how sharp it is.

im a newbie here...are all of you shooting in RAW, and if so, do you sharpen them before posting them?
I bought a 135L and the pics are not quite as sharp as what i see here :(
I shoot with a 40D...i look at 100% crops of my RAW files, with the sharpening at default (25) in LR. When i look at the eyes in the subject of my photos, it does not look like those piercing eyelashes that I see in this thread!

About myself yes i do sharpen my shots before i post here or anywhere, and if you want more sharpness then at the end of your post processing before sharpening, convert to JPEG and then apply sharpness.

Maybe you could post some w/ exif and someone can help you out. I've noticed that sometimes its the photographer and not the lens that the reason that shoots aren't sharp. That includes myself

That initial sharpening in Lightroom is what is usually referred to as "capture sharpening", and is intended to take care of softness connected with bayer interpolation (and the default sharpening is quite low). When you post an image, you should use the Output module in Lightroom to export an image at the appropriate size, and let Lightroom sharpen for that output size and medium (screen, glossy paper, matte paper, etc).
