I must have the 135L-100=??? ;)
you tend to like to do math equations on potn. LOL. let me see now... 135L-100. Lets carry the L over so that would just be 135-100 = xxL. Cancel out the 100, that'll leave me with 35-00 = xxL. 35-0 is obviously 35. so then it's the 35L! YAY! thats two now tareq!

So, curiosity overwhelmed me. What would happen if combined the Canon 5DM2 with a Sigma 2X Pro TC and the 135L. Like any lens that ventures into larger telephoto sizes, I should have used a monopod or tripod, but I didn't so this is the best shot: ISO 200, 1/250s @ f16, -1.00 Ev. Image sharpened slightly in ACDSee Pro 3. Full frame and 100 percent crop.

While Full-Frame's image is one of the best I've seen here, it's still just wildflowers among some trees. You have plenty of possibilities in your area, maybe in your neighborhood--all you have to do is see what he saw and be able to equally manage proper technique to capture what you see.
NOT to be compared to Full-Frame's work, but my front yard just gave this little exercise: A little something in the foreground and background and something unexpected (fallen Hibiscus) in the center, shallow DOF (f2) ISO 400, shutter at 1/8192s (just love that 1DM3). 135L, of course.
It doesn't have to be flowers. Your state has many kinds of vegetation. But you can do the same in an urban environment with trash and bricks. It's the doing that leads to the seeing.

OH i love this lens because many people here love this lens, and in some websites [i know one] give this lens 10, and the pages reached 53 with my Browser, so why i shouldn't love this lens? I use my H3DII maybe once every month and it is my top camera, my 300 seeing the light only if there is a sport game specially soccer so it is also less use, i have many lenses that i never use until i go out or have something to shoot, if i didn't shoot for almost 2 weeks up to 1 month should i sell my all entire gear then.
I said that i love this lens and i don't use it at all because i depend on zooms for what i shoot as no much i can shoot these days that needs a prime except 300 for games, and with Hasselblad i also don't play with Canon much indoors, and not only 135L is not been used at all for long time but also 50 1.8, 50 1.4, 85 1.8, 100 macro, 100-400,.... i am sure i can use them all when i have things and subjects and events to use them but we don't have and i am just waiting, you people lucky that you really living in places that you can get a lot of things, in all the world, the most difficult place to do photography is the middle East surround of Saudi Arabia itself.

Great shot! I noticed you have a 50D, how do you like the focal length on a crop? whats the lowest shutter speed you use with this?
Got the lens yesterday as the light was begining to fade... took a couple quick shots...

I think they have used "Split toning" in Photoshop (or similar) to achieve this effect. Google it for your photo editing software :)

Airbutchie,
Very nice. I saw your 16-35L coverage of these cars, and I've have to say you took them to the next level using this focal length. I've always been fascinated with increasing cosmetic attention designers are using with headlights these days. (IMO lambo lights looks way cool) The lights on your orange car shot have a lot of nice colours and details from the many reflections inside. The low DOF gives the center nice prominence and creates a nice, overall aesthetically pleasing look. That would look nice framed in my (dream) pool room!
I dropped by the 135L room because the idea of replacing it with my 70-200 2.8 IS has been floating in the back of my head. Last night, I was post-processing my last batch of wedding shots when I noticed a lot of softness in my group shots. At f/3.5 I have sharp images at the center, but the edges are just horrid. I almost exclusively shoot with the 24-70 and the 70-200 only gets used when I want to go long and snap candids. The 135L paired with a 1.4x seems like a viable alternative for me. I don't know. It's a tough call. Candids mean fast changing conditions and you don't want to miss an opportunity at a wedding just because you're locked into a single focal length. I see you have both lenses. Very interesting. I can afford to buy the 135L on my existing cash flow, but I don't know if I can afford to have both of these lenses only to discover one of them never getting used over time...

Suggestion: buy 135L used. If, after a few months you don't use one of the two, sell the one you are no longer or not using. If you lose any money at all, which I doubt, consider it a (tiny) rental fee....
BTW, after acquiring a 135L, already having an Extender 1.4X, I completely stopped using my extremely sharp 70-200 F/4L IS. I sold it. A gut wrenching decision, but so far I never felt the need to use it again.
Kind regards, Wim

I got mine a couple of weeks ago and haven't had the time to really give it a good play yet, but I think I'm going to love it, too. It's been one of my "want" lenses for a long while - i love cruising this thread & hope to have some good stuff to offer one day! I have found that f2 hand held on my 40D has been a little challenge, but I'm confident that this is user error made worse by hands that are very weak & sore at the moment.

Lovely Kitties...
I don't really know why but I find the 135 my hardest lens to hand hold. I really fight keeping the camera from swinging left or right.
Maybe it's because there's just so much mass in that objective element?

Kristen & Jay - yeah you definitely need to wind up that shutter speed handholding this thing (and moreso on a crop body). The one thing I find making it difficult is supporting the lens - the focus ring seems so wide and close to the camera body that I need to change my grip (to a less stable position) to avoid nudging it.

Many thanks! This is a killer shot!!! Love the moment.. the color/contrast and of course the bokeh.
I agree... the lens takes a little time to figure out how to grip it/shoot it... but when you do...it's magic IMO. I find it will tell on you if you are not steady with it. I try to keep the shutter over 1/200th when hand-held... otherwise... my shots could have blur in them.
Keep up the great work... glad you like the lens. Nice shots!

Little touch of curves for contrast and some USM (250, .3, 0) to make the Crack pop a little but no artificial blur added of any kind.

Thanks! Many more on my website here (http://tomhenderix.smugmug.com/travel/thailand).
First one is from the floating market in Damnoen Saduak. Sadly that has become one big tourist trap. I quickly tired of the overview shots showing nothing more than tourists, so I bolted on the 135 and that's the result. At least the people are still authentic.
Second was a kid playing around during a dance lesson in a small mountain village. More shots of him on my site.

Basically I could'nt afford for a 1Ds MKIII + 300L2.8 ..
I absolutly needed a good iso1600 or 3200 (I love night shoots or deap in forests) more than a good AF ..
After 9 months the 5DMKII'AF is, for me, not that bad for sport with 300L2.8nonIS or 135L2.0 and near perfect with 70-300DOIS ..
I could get very good pictures in F1 Race in Monza or Quad Bike in a WorldRace in France (understanding I am not a professional :o, just some local news papers are asking my photos some times)

I grabbed a couple of shots of our local emus earlier and have noticed terrible purple fringing around their black beaks and around their bodies. The background was quite bright, but I wasn't prepared for this amount of fringing. Is this normal with this lens? This isn't a keeper but hopefully shows what I'm talking about...
