Grab shot of grandgirl. In shade and I had to actually desaturate a little, otherwise it looked too colorful after converting to JPG. Canon 7D, 135mm L f2, ISO 200, 1/180s @ f2.8. No other post process.

The detail of the eye also has no sharpening. I love this lens.

I am guessing she's about 14-15. Would you share the EXIF info for these? I've done a couple of these events, but I feel like I am never close enough. How far were you from the performer?

TIA.

And I suspect she's older, since Indian dancers can stay flexible for a very long time.

I had a 85mm on crop, and liked the length. Now that I'm FF, I miss it (and don't like my 85mm anymore). I was thinking of selling my 24-105mm (zoom is flexible, but find the F/4 limiting) and getting this instead. My buddy has the 24-105mm and we share lenses so don't won't be a problem.
These photos are so awesome. Is it that much better than the 85mm (quality wise, I understand the different focal lengths)

what's more i had the same problem. After buying 5D (40D was previous) my 85/1.8 didn't do well. 135L is the ultimate solution :). You may consider buying 50/1.4 as well, which in my opinion does very nice on FF

She recently turned twelve.

All the images were shot at ISO 1600 but could have been as low as 400 for many of them. Problem is with the dancer moving about so much you can easily miss a shot with too low of an ISO.

I was never closer than 25 feet. Usually in the 50 foot range. I had a 300 f/2.8 IS L that I placed dead center from the top of the seating, was almost too tight from 75 feet away.

My buddy gave me his (wedding photog with a bag 24/35/50/85 L primes) and it was collecting dust. Literally, there was dust all over it. I can't sell it of course, but I can use it until he needs it, and he's a snob, so I doublt he'll ever use it again :D

It is quite nice on the FF, although I haven't use it as much lately.

35/2, 50/1.4, 85/1.8, and 135/2 will be my stable now. i won't carry all four at once obviously. Probably pair the 35/85 and 50/135, and occasionally the 35/135 together. Now I just need more models to shoot darnit!

No it's not, I wouldn't get it if I were you......Who would want an extremely fast USM 135mm f/2 lens that is super sharp wide open.....?

i totally agree  why to get an extremely fast sharp lens wide open? people don't dig sharpness anymore, Generac Ebay lenses will do the job looooool,,

this 135 L prime is one of the best glasses around, i think its number two after the 200mm F2 and 85L

No way.... that close? I thought it was like 70-200 MFD. Okay now I'm having trouble getting this or the 35L first lol.

Just right for very tight headshots!

The 135L is also known as a Flower lens (without tubes), its got a max magnification of like .18x (which is fairly high). Part of the reason why its universally loved :D

Ive been looking to get this lens. but all of the photos ive seen on here havent really impressed me and screamed holy **** this is worth being in the trinity!

If the 135L shouldn't be considered w/ the 35L and 85L as part of the prime trinity, what other lens are you considering then?

You can get almost 62 years of insurance for less than $80 with no deductible and covers everything exception intentional abuse and normal wear and tear.

Yes, but do not attach it as a rider to your home owners policy... get a separate and distinct policy.

I can't say which one is the best but I have St. Farm. If you are or were military or family member was check out FAA.

Stand alone policies have no deductible, insured at retail value at the time you insure it and won't affect your ability to get home owners insurance if you make too many claims against it.

I finally bought this lens after coming to this thread countless times and, after an awkward start, it's all that I expected and more. Tack sharp, wonderful bokeh and great colors even in dreary weather.

It's always a pleasure to come here and look at all your pictures.

I'd also be interested in recs for an alternative to the original lenshood. I bought the lens used and the hood that came with it is not the one it's suposed to be: it fits, sort of, but doesn't lock on. So I need to buy another one anyway.

Yeah. I've found the 135L takes the 1.4 TC very very well. The AF is still snappy, and only losing a stop of light doesn't really matter usually. The image quality difference is pretty hard to spot normally.

I often carry this combo in place of my 70-200 now. Much smaller and lighter and much less conspicuous too.

Really like that shot, Alejandro.

Yeah man, I don't like those little things, but it was a good subject to show details, even if they are details on a wasp...:)

Imaging world off Ebay, authorized seller. Fedex Ground (hey it was free shipping). $920 after I get my cash back. It's a bargain when you think about it.

I played with it for about 15 seconds while working on my boss' computer. I got three words to say.

Hole. EEEE. Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

It is already my favorite lines. I feel bad for the other lenses. This is my favorite.

What does the 135 2 become with the 1.4x? a 2.8? Does the MFD change or is it still very close?

yep, 2.8....MFD stays the same.

Oh nice, could almost turn into a macro lens at that point.

Any alternative to the lens hood that comes with it? With it on it just looks ridiculous.
