can you tell me which camera you used?
I use a 350D (Rebel XT)
The shot was taken using a shoulder tripod. Distance was about 6 meter.
Shot with Av 2.8. Exif data are present in the shot.
In the original shot my daughter was in the center, the picture shown is a crop. Manually selected center focus point.

I was going to get one, then changed tack, and got a 70-200 f/4 instead. I'm delighted with it, though if I had the cash, I'd probably get both ;).

I don't see the 135L and any variant of the 70-200Ls as competing lenses. I think they work well together overall. I sold the 135L in favor of the more versatile 70-200 2.8L IS, but always wished I had just kept the 135L. As a result I ended up acquiring another 135L and use it when I can't or don't want to carry the 70-200, which is much heavier (not that weight is an issue for me) and attracts more attention than I want to draw to myself. I reserve the 70-200 for when I'm doing paid or "official" work, and the 135L for more personal use.

I totally agree - but for me, it came down to versatility, and the fact that the 70-200 gives me much more flexibility than the 135 would. If I had the money to have both, I probably would, but I'm not in a position now, to be able to justify the expense on a lens I'd only use periodically.

exactly. i got the 70-200IS 2.8 first due to its versatility but also wanted something that was low-key yet fast aperature like the 135L. i loveeeeee the bokeh it prodcues. would be great for like street photography/candids and id also use for portraits as well. now i just need to pick up a short prime lens and ill be set .. for now :D

The statues are attached to a frame that I cropped out of the original image, thus rendering the still life subjects as though they are suspended in mid-air. The hand is attached to the frame as well as the Eagle's wing.

The statues are attached to a frame that I cropped out of the original image, thus rendering the still life subjects as though they are suspended in mid-air. The hand is attached to the frame as well as the Eagle's wing.
"very very sneaky" sir! nevertheless those pics are sharp!

Just got this lens a few days ago and this is literally the second picture I took with the lens around the house. I amped up the saturation to give it a painted feel and used lab color modes.

This is an amazing lens... I'm currently considering the 85 1.8, the 135L and the 70-200...does anyone have 2 or 3 of the above? Opinions on each?

I've had the 85mm Jo, and it's a very fine lens for the money. I currently have the 85/1.2 which is quite stunning and worth it for my weddings. A lot of cash though.
The 135 vs 70-200 is an oft-debated one (assuming you mean the 2.8?). Both are sharp wide-open, the former much smaller, lighter and more discreet. The latter is more versatile IMO. but far more obvious.

I would say the 85/1.2 quality wise is probably the front runner - wonderful smooth creamy bokeh - (I don't own this one) followed by the fast focusing 135mm and then the 70-200.
The 135 is stunning - sharp, excellent colours and contrast and price wise great value. But the heavy 70-200mm is without doubt the most versatile as covers a wide range.
The 135mm is a bit long for shooting indoors (portraits) even on a 5D. Your ultimate lens choice will hinge on its use.

I disagree with that. I shoot excellent portrait with the 85L on the XTi which is at 136mm on a full frame.

i have all 3 lol .. though i am planning to sell the 70-200 f2.8 IS. you cant go wrong with any of the 3, all great lens. it all comes down to what you shoot mostly. for what i shoot, having the 85 and 135L is better for me. 70-200 does give you better versatility due to zoom and IS. only con would be the size and weight, but to some its not an issue. :D

I just got a 135 F2 yesterday, and I'm not sure what the button next to the AF/MF button is. This is my first lens of this caliber, so I'm not used to such awesome equipment! I see it has something to do with distances and I'm not sure what it should be set at?
I'd appreciate an explanation and what it should probably be set at.
Thanks...I've had an slr since my first Canon AE-1 back in the late 70's, but I'm still pretty clueless on the technical stuff of photography!

That switch is for focusing distances. One says 0.9m - Infinity, and one says 1.6m - Infinity, so if your subject is farther away that 1.6m, setting the switch to 1.6 makes focusing even faster. But if there's a chance your subject is withing the 0.9m - 1.6m range, you need to set the switch to 0.9, which will slow down the focusing a tiny bit.
