Yeah - the sheep are a problem - but the orcs - not so much - they only seem to be a problem whenever a movie camera is around. It's kinda like a reverse paparazzi situation.

they don't. i remember a few months ago, some jerk with a ferrari f430 parked in the fire lane at the mall. i'm guessing the guy just needed an ego boost so he picked a place where there would be a ton of high school girls fawning over his car when he got back. i really hope someone called a security officer over so they could issue him a ticket for illegal parking..

Not excusing the behavior at all, but I believe they park like that to put a buffer of space between their car and the cars that might park beside it and ding the side or something.

Some students in London tried an experiment a few years ago. They illegally parked a beat-up old Ford and observed the time it took to be booked by the law. It wasn't long.
They continued with a succession of cars each more up-market than the last and on different days. The evidence was clear...expensive cars received less negative attention.

The clincher came when they tried it with a late model Rolls Royce. It received no ticket at all...so they continued parking it in even more outrageous places untill having left it on a busy traffic circle they came back after some time and found a policeman directing traffic round it!

That was in the era before the great egalitarian decline, but it paints an interesting picture!

This^

My mate takes two spots in parking lots with his Gallardo. The car is wide enough and jealous ****s parks so close to it on purpose. Door dings, scratches, etc.

He has parked intentionally on illegal spots. No stopping zones, etc. In front of hotels and restaurants just so the car is within sight. A guy that can afford a lambo doesn't worry about a $79 fine.

Is he above the law? No. Can he afford it? Yes.

Hasn't seemed all too strange to me, seems to be pretty standard weather for the summer --> cold and cloudy in the morning, sunny with fog rolling in over the hills in the afternoon). Glad to hear that the bridge looked familiar though after you drove over it 3 or 4 times. :D I was biking over it last week when I thought that it looked really great with the fog rolling over the hill so I made a decision to come back and grab a photo that weekend; as far as I'm concerned it paid off. The Bay Area is definitely a great place with beautiful geography, but I won't lie, I prefer my old home of Virginia to it. Granted, once one lives somewhere for 18 years, one gets set into their ways of hot, humid summers, beautiful autumns, and cold winters. ;)

no, you really don't. these hot and humid summers are going to be the death of me.

Everyone says that, but I really miss them. I was home a few weekends ago on one of the 99 degree days and man, that's what the summer is. As much as everyone talks about how perfect California weather is, I just can't get myself to be OK with a summer where it's 70 every day. That's just not summer. Nor is a winter where it is 55 every day a winter. But that's just me.

i absolutely adore our autumns and winters here.. you're right, it really makes you feel the season. but the summers are ridiculous. the humidity is suffocating, and it makes the 95 degrees here feel ten times worse than the 120 or so i've felt in the dry deserts of arizona.

hahaha, i think we should trade places. a maximum temperature of 70 degrees sounds like heaven to me right now. :p

brujogarza, your shots look underexposed by two stops or so.

I really wouldn't doubt it, as I am a sub amatuer! I appreciate the feedback very much! i am actually still trying to understand how to adjust the exposure, but i am certain it is by either increasing my lens number from mostly 2.0 to maybe 4.0, or by raising the ISO? I will get to it immediately so as to not show gross misuse of this fantasitc lens!

If you want to let more light in the aperture has to open up more (ex: f/2.8 to f/2), slow the shutter speed down, or increase ISO.

Thank you JH. They're friendly little critters but seldom stop moving so they're quite hard to capture. They eat by catching insects on the wing...that tail gives them great manoeuvreability.

So, I spent two days in Edinburgh back in Dec. 2006--- could not figure out what the Roman-column-like structure was supposed to be. Is it a monument of some kind? Loved the view from up there! Very cool city.

It's called "The Disgrace" by us locals. Originally intended as a copy of the Parthenon for a monument to the fallen of the Napoleonic Wars (IIRC), the money ran out when it was only half-finished. We've all got so used to the incomplete version, there's an outcry whenever anyone suggests finishing the job. Curmudgeonly, us? :)

Depends on the portraiture. I'd be incline to leave it as is-she has nice skin and I hate the kind of photography that smooths it all into artificial perfection.

Good skin, good light, and really good makeup will go a long way towards saving you time in post.

I got it!! Woohoo!

This thing is stupidly sharp wide open, I'm very impressed! I've only had it for about an hour now but here's a test shot I just took a few minutes ago. It has a very 3D quality to it ;)

Spectacular wide open.. And the bokeh!!

You may be able to squeeze some more sharpness out of it by doing the AF Micro adjustment.

Package just arrived minutes ago and this lens is a beauty. Its a lot larger than I was expecting, but initial thoughts are... Holy Cow!
