Too expensive for me right now, but I might go for it one day.
i suppose you have an aps-c (1.6x crop) camera right now. why not try getting an ef 85mm f/1.8 USM? its the 135L's 'lil bro and will give you the same field of view on your camera.

Thx for the suggestion.
Since 1.5 months I have a 5D. My current lens setup is the 85/1.8 ;) and the 50/1.4.
I like the AF of the 85 a lot better but the IQ of my 50 is better. The IQ is not on par with the 35/1.4 or the 135/2 but it's a nice deal for its price.
As my "studio" is actually my living room (so quite limited in space) I can use the 50 for full body.
I guess I could use the 135 for portrets but for full body I would have to go outdoors. But that's something i'm planning to do. Strobist shooting in the woods gives really nice results.
You can use a large aperture to isolate the model and then use one strobe to darken the background relative to the model. Makes your model really come out.

Reminds me of the time I was at EPCOT Center (clearly back in the day) and I had my A-1 w/70-210mm f/4 zoom, shooting one of the performers in England up on a street light, calling people into the show... He sees me and says, "Now that's a cannon!" :D

Here’s a couple from me. It’s nice to occasionally use the 135L for portraits now that I’m back taking them with a full frame camera.
The only problem is that it’s almost too sharp.

I've had mine for about 3 months now and think it is an awesome lens on the 5D.
The only things that prevent me from using it more are that the focal length is usually a little too long indoors for anything but tight head shots and once the sun goes down it is generally pretty hard to meet the 1/FL shutter speed rule in ambient light.
The only potential improvements I can think of would be an even wider aperture and/or IS although either of those might then make it too large and heavy for me to want to carry around.
Here are some of my favorites:

I had the pleasure of borrowing a 135/2 for part of a live gig I shot a few months ago, and found the length was pretty much perfect for that sort of work. Lovely lens.

For those who have both the 135 f2 and the 85 1.2 or even those and the 70-200 2.8; do they compliment each other and are all useful or do you find yourself using one and leaving the others in the bag. I've got the 85 1.2 (it's new) and the zoom but keep thinking I "need" the 135 f2, for several reasons, more reach than the 85 by quite a bit, and way smaller than the big zoom, which facilitates carrying it around all day or even in a small bag in addition to maybe my 24-70 2.8. Also it'd be great with extension tubes and tele-extender which can spend most of their time in the bag so it still keeps the camera/lens combination less noticable and easy to manage although the big zoom gets smaller and more delightful every time I use it, such a wonderful lens. I do admit I'm attracted to low f stops and sharp lenses.
My desire for the 135 might come in part that I'm not quite used to the 85 as both a focal length and because I feel the necessity to shoot it at 1.2 because it's something that makes the lens so unique. It's hard to plan for so long for such a lens and pay that much only to use it at f2 LOL.
I get the feeling that I'm going with two camera kit/setups, low light and regular:
Regular: 16-35LII 2.8/24-70L 2.8/70-200L 2.8 w/tubes and tele-ext.
Low: 35L 1.4/ 85L 1.2/ 135L 2 w/tubes and tele-ext. (I don't have the 35 or 135 yet but are the current wish list
items)
It seems an ideal walk around combination or travel combination would be the 24-70 2.8 and 135 2 w/ Tele-ex and 12mm tube. A Crumpler 5MDB would offer enough space for all of it packed away and to carry when shooting as well.

All the comments in the world and all the posts on the net can't tell you what the lens will do for you. Why not rent it for a weekend?
You've certainly got a nice set of lenses already. Are you sure you are using them to their fullest potential and need another right now?

Funny, because I can relate. :D I used to really LOVE mine, but after have gotten 135L all of a sudden the 24-105L doesn't feel quite as wonderful anymore.
Also, now when the 135L has showed me how amazing primes are I appreciate my 50/1.4 more, and I have started to use it as my walk-around lens quite often. I'll keep the zoom though, because there are times when I don't want to switch lenses.

I'm still waiting to see whether or not this lens will get less use now that I have the 85L but either way I still cant find any faults with this lens.
A quick candid I grabbed with the 135 while taking a break when I was still testing out the 85L:

I can see why people who buy the 135mm also end up buying the 85mm F1.2L and even selling the 135mm. Because I sort of think that 85mm is in between 50mm and 135mm (in terms of primes). And it does seem tempting!
Hope that makes sense.

Mr. Aztech I think some days I come to this forum just to see what you have done this time. I love your work, no fashion and working with models is not the kind of thing I'd want to do myself but you're lighting (and composition/direction) as simple as you say it is and the way you work with the talent is just stunning.
I do think you could accomplish much of this with just about any lens you liked, you are a huge talent.
Thank you, it's rare to see a photographer's or any artists work that I love every thing I see from them, I really appreciate this.
It looks as if this comes naturally to you, no matter what it took or how long it took to reach this level, all of your work just flows and I'm thrilled.
I spent over 30 years as a Director of Photography behind the lens shooting commercials and films all over the US, my one passion from the whole experience was the lighting, it's the one part I still find thrilling and I get just as thrilled seeing your work.

Exactly, lens can be any lens, but with good skill in lighting people can do alot even with cheapo 50 1.8, so it is not a lens issue, and i am happy using 24-70 or 135L or 85 1.8, because they all do great job with my lightings.

On this I disagree with Tareq, anybody with the money can buy decent equipment, but it takes a real artist with an understanding of light to produce shots like these.
Thx I find full body shoots very hard to do them, on beauty shots I can control more every little detail....

the gear is only 50% of the final product, before I do my "snap snap" there is a whole team involved
Shoot concept planning 3 hrs
props set up 30 mins
Make up 1 hrs
Hair 45 Mins
Lights Set up & White Balance Set up1 hr
Shooting 45 mins
Proofing 1 hrs
Post processing 2 hrs...
Ofcourse, many photographers in studios working with all that stuff and taking hours and hours to arrange everything, it is not individual works, and in this case, if anyone can find the right whole stuff and team to work with then simply the results will be always amazing.
I was looking to apply one of those fashion or magazine agencies but i feel i would like to learn more about photography before turn into full or part time photographer.
Great work, keep them going :)

I have decided to start saving for my next L glass prime. Which will be the 35mm F1.4L. As I am in need of something wider than 50mm. Just need to fit a little bit more into the frame. I thought if I go ultra wide my composition would end up getting all fuzzed. My eyes are totally fixed to Prime now. Which is excellent.

I had the same problem with my 135 and sent it to Canon for calibration. Since yours is new, I think I'd send it back for an exchange. That won't always work, but I wouldn't pay for an f/2 lens to shoot at f/4. My 135 is very sharp now at f/2.
I bought an 85L and sent it back and the second one had the same back-focus problem. Neither would focus properly until f/2.8, but since I already have an 85 f/1.8, I wasn't going to pay almost 2 grand for an 85 f/2.8. I could have sent the 85L to Canon with my camera, but it took almost a month when I sent the 135 and I didn't want to be without my camera that long again.

also I think my lens not social :D because it always try find nearest unmovable sold subject

but when the subject closer always it focus properly like this

do you use 'fixed focus point & recompose' technique? i never trust my lenses to choose their own focus points. if you try that i cant see how it can mis-focus, assuming it's calibrated properly?

I bought this lens from internet as well and i don't have any issue, i didn't hear much issues with this lens from others, so i suggest that you give it more practice, i did mis-focusing many times with any lens, but now no way any of my lenses will do out of focus as long i know how to focus correctly.
