Canon 1Ds RAW image files - I have a problem converting files saved in a RAW format. Please can anyone out there help me please .....?

My system:
I am working on PC and want to process the files on Windows XP or Windows 2000. When converting files I get the message: "An unsupported image format is included in the file save". Exactly the same problem occurs when I work on either the Windows 2000 machine and the Windows XP machine.

The JPG files are fine but I can not convert the RAW files.

How I took the photos and downloaded the files:
I saved all images in both JPG and RAW formats.

I downloaded the files using a card reader (ie not directly with the firewire) - I did not use the Zoom Browser software as the manual indicates that this gives problems with RAW files.

I can view the files in the Canon Zoom Browser software:
They all show up as thumbnails with "RAW" on the top left of each image and the Filename.tif below each image.

If I select any of the file and double click to convert the file it comes up with a message "File conversion unsuccessful"
If I right click on a selected image and select "Raw Image processing" followed by "convert and save by current settings" I get the message "An unsupported image format is included in the file save"
Also if I select "List for development condition settings" from the "Raw image processing menu" I get the message "there are no images" even if several images were selected.

If your using the Canon software...forget it! On my Mac it was difficult and buggy. I purchased the Adobe Raw file convertor. It works like a charm and is fast.

Go to www.adobe.com and you'll find the link on their home page. Look at the requirements and check out the Quicktime movie tutorial. I finally understood after watching the first two videos twice!

Hope this helps

Try BreezeBrowser... it's a free download. If it works, register it for about $35. I've had great success with it and it's constantly being upgraded.

Breezebrowser is great, especially for the G2/G3/D60... but it's got a bug in the sharpen routine for raw for the 10D that stops it being able to do other than the camera default... software of choice, and very much my recommendation is Capture One DSLR LE from Phase One... have a look at http://www.phaseone.com/en/ - it's pretty much the package that ships with the top end Phase One digital backs, and gives you SO much control over raw images it's not funny... you can see comparisons between changes to the image, and you can have it processing one or a stack of shots to jpeg or tiff while working on others...

Very, very much recommended... it's a trial version, but you'll love it!!

Cheers,
Stuart

The C1 Limited Edition does not support the 1Ds. You have to spring 500 bucks for the pro version.

I'd check here to make sure you have the latest versions:

My experience with BreezeBrowser is that, if there's a bug that Chris learns about, there will be a fix in a day or two...

He does a great job and has written a great application.
