Nice work! - was that a Missouri Genesis? Lucky him doesn't have a front plate on.

I miss mine - Although I felt like there were only 5 Genesis enthusiasts in all of MO.

Yes, Missouri Genesis, Sikeston actually. And yes, he has a front plate, had to chop it out. For the full shoot he'll be plate-less, this was just quickie.

Great shots. Can you share how you processed and lit these? I love all the shots you do of your Lotus as well.

Great shots. Can you share how you processed and lit these? I love all the shots you do of your Lotus as well.

Thanks. Lighting is all Mother Nature, and processing was my standard multiple-polarization, multiple-exposure routine. I don't really like this routine, as it's a lot of work, but it's necessary in many instances (shooting a black car being one of them).

Since I don't use strobes, I have to be extra careful with the light I shoot in, and vehicle placement. For this small set I got lucky with an overcast day, and placed the car on the highway between and underneath the Northbound and Southbound Interstates. This is what gave me the defining lines all over the car. Of course, it also gave me fits in processing.

The reason for multiple polarizations is obvious, as is the reason for multiple exposures; control. Shooting a black car means that if you expose for the car your background is blown out. Shooting for the background means that the subject is too dark to see real definition. Simple solution; do both. After that it's just a lot of layers to get the correct reflections in the right place, then layers of B&W to show the subject, and background properly.

Hope this helps.
