Hi all:

I worked a bit on this image...little wide angle distortion that I had to correct due the angle I shot it at, and then conversion to b&w. I used a fair amount of dodge and burn, my first serious attempt to do so. Basic sharpening.

Any comments of course welcome...let me have it.

WELL DONE!

I very much like it. What I like about it is the surprising size difference between the people and the door. As I was scrolling down I did not expect that the doors were that scale.

Technically, the conversion is spot on. I could not tell that there was a perspective adjustment. Everything is spot on.

The only critique I could make, would be the people. I would have preferred that they were either sharp (faster shutter) or clearly motion blurred (slower shutter). As it, even thought their presence is perfect, their appearance seems to detract.

Overall, very nice. 8.5 out of 10.

Thanks...it took some work. I hear you on the people, I had three different versions...one with a boy sitting on the steps that really was compositionally striking, but of course that version was not as sharp. Second version had no people. I stuck with them, because they added the "wow factor" in terms of the actual size of the doors...so you think that the picture would be stronger without them? I agree, I wanted them blurred more, but I could try doing that in Photoshop.

Anyone?

My reaction was similar - the people are critical in appreciating the scale. The steep slope of the walkway is another surprise.

I can't tell from just looking at the image as posted, but the highlights in the stone facing at the left seem to be too hot.

Whatever wide angle distortion you were worried about is not apparent - so that worked.

Keep the people. IMO they have exactly the right degree of motion blur. I would introduce a little more contrast, however, to liven up the tonal range.

Thanks for this and your advice on the lighthouse, doc!

I need them to ensure that the doors look as huge as they really are, that's what I decided.
