MS has teamed with Canon, Nikon and Adobe so far.

Just wondering if anyone has anything to say about it, Good Bad or what ever.

Works just fine for me, once you get past the "Genuine Windows" garbage which always hangs up forever, regardless of whether you've got a legit copy or not.

And I said that it works fine for me. Hadn't tried your links, as I'd already installed it maybe a month or two ago. Unless you've got the latest version of .Net, you need the "Full" version.

I had it installed, and it worked pretty good. Then I found that, for some reason, this program would hang onto .tif files with a vengence, and I couldn't delete them. Uninstalled it, and my problem went away. Now I do browsing and arranging with Adobe Bridge. It may not be the best fit, but it does a pretty good job, and it doesn't hang onto .tif files. :)

I found the same thing with this program. The last TIFF that you have viewed cannot be deleted until you reboot your system. A pain in the .....

I used breezebrowser for all of my viewing. It is very fast and has great sort capabilities. Have never had any trouble with it at all. They are the first non Adobe product to come out with full RAW conversion support for the 5D.

Personally I am VERY leary of this application. (the MS RAW viewer)
It will not be installed on my PCs

But then I'm paranoid..

I had the same problem with the raw viewer as well I had to go into the Task Manager and shut it down so I can delete the tiffs but from what I hear jpegs are just as good as tiffs

hmmm - I have been using for a week with no problems. But, then again, I have not used it to view any tiff files yet. And, you cannot download it from Firefox - still another reason you still have to keep IE on your computer.

Overall, I like the viewer.

Sorry about that i meant for printing. There was a comparision done on images printed from tiffs and printed from jpegs. Jpegs was equal to tiffs.

I'm with you CDS. This screams scary to me...Breezebrowser works awesome for viewing RAW.

That's a known problem with the first version of the Microsoft RAW viewer. The latest version doesn't have this problem.

I tried the MS RAW Viewer too, but I didn't like it and uninstalled it again.

I tried it and did not like it as well as the alternatives. I have gotten into the habit of using bridge, it works very well once you get used to it.

I installed the RAW Image Thumbnailer and Viewer 2 days ago.

When trying to create a DVD from a disk image file yesterday (using Roxio Easy Media Creator 7), I had several hang-ups (where writing process would not progress but no error message). I have done this procedure several times before with no problems. This was the first attempt after installing RAW Viewer).

Could installing the RAW Viewer (with .NET framework) be the cause of this new problem? Anyone with similar experience?

That's a known problem with the first version of the Microsoft RAW viewer. The latest version doesn't have this problem. Me, too, with v 1.0. It's uninstalled now & I don't miss it. ;)

For strictly viewing I use the MS viewer because Adobe Bridge takes forever to load up, although I will use it when I need to batch etc.

MS RAW just fine for me. Like others have mentioned I had an issue with deleting/modifying TIFF files. This is a known issue. The workaround is:

1. open MS RAW with an image file
2. select Options (last icon on the tools panel at the bottom)
3. under General tab, deselect Render Thumbnails for Canon TIFF images.
4. click OK and close MS RAW
5. logout or reboot your computer

From this point onwards you will not have any delete/modify issue with TIFF files.

I have had it for awhile now and its not an issue with my PC. And I have a LOT of photo software. I keep several types on my PC for club use.

Nasty horrible piece of software!

Better idea, there is a DLL you can 'install' that reads the embeded thumbnails on RAW files to display a thumbnail in the explorer view, I will see if I can hunt it down...
