I have two favorite pictures, however I can't post what lens was used becuase they were taken by someone else on this board...
Here are my two favorite pictures on this board:
http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=95447
The reason for choosing it... timing, the capture and the clarity.
and
http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=102900
The reason for choosing this one... the colors, the sharpness, the subject.
Probably not what you were looking for, but these ARE my two favorite pictures :)

This is my favorite ...... it is one of the first pictures ever taken with my Canon Rebel (35mm with 28-90 kit lens and Ilford Sepia) and one of the last of my beloved Ginger.
When it came back and I saw the print, I realized how old she was getting to be and how time effects all things. To me this image represents time and the limited time left with my best friend. She passed away about a year after this picture was taken, at the age of 14.... she was a good dog :D
Now, if you had asked for "best" photo... I might have chosen another ;)

Perfect! That is what I asked for your fav pic not the best. I just lost my dog about a month ago she was only 8 she died of a a sudden heart attack out of no where. I totally understand why it is your favorite pic.
Thanks

Taken 4 months into my starting photography, it was probably the first shot I'd ever been really happy with. There have been better shots since then, but I still remember that feeling of "I took that?" when I first got the shot.

Definately this one of the Robin. Not the most exciting shot but I love the colours and it always makes me smile because this Robin was a real character, he would always appear when I was out in the garden and follow me about. Haven't seen him for a couple of months now.

Well I'm a noob. And Haven't taken that many shots. But as my favorite I'd have to say this pic of my cousin and his horse. I really didn't plan on taking this shot. I was actually just messing around with the settings and took it. I really liked it after I added a little to it in PS. I think this was with my 28-105 USM II

Well, this is my fav......but not the best that I've done (considering it's blurred w/ bad lighting).
My son has Autism and he has a hard time "going with the flow" of things. But this day, I was choreographing a dance and he decided to join me. I just love how happy and innocent he looks dancing in this pic. :)

Pleasent memories from this vacation trip, the way river and rails curve, reflection on window, etc..
This is one of those images ,which safest to take on P&S. I turned LCD 90 degress so that when I pushed the camera out of the window, I was able to keep my head within train cabin.

Here's my favorite pic, I like it a lot cause it was all just chance. And my friend just asked me that day, right before leaving (to go shopping at Costco) why I bring my camera every where (A Powershot G3.) I was driving to costco, passed it, but saw this scene, so on the way back I had to stop and take a pic.

I'll share three (sorry!). The first one is of a sunrise over Lake Michigan. I took this picture a few minutes before I proposed to my wife. It is just taken with my old Kodak Easyshare 430. The second two are some lighthouses on the lake. I'm quite new to photography and had just gotten my 20D w/kit lens. When I looked at the pic preview on the LCD I had a huge smile on my face and really excited about taking my first decent picture. (at least i think so)

I guess this is probably still my favourite, not because it's technically good - totally blew out the highlights, the girls dress etc (but life would be boring if we just picked the most technically correct photo!). But I like the fact that this totally spontanious photo looks kind of posed:

Because it was incredible funny to shoot and because the customer paid 4 digit value to child protection institute to get first name of the model and another desired print of her (with her agreement of course) with her signature over price of the print it self. Sorry, but I have two. However they are both here for the same reasons. I consider myself primairly a wildlife photographer in general and specifically one of birds. At least that's what I concentrate the most on and enjoy the most. So, it is unusal that my two favorites are of a cat and a dog.
These were both taken with Canon point and shoot cameras. The cat with a G1 and the puppy with a Pro1. Neither shot was "set up." I just took them on the fly. For the one of the cat I put the camera on the floor and just got lucky as his eyes opened just as the shutter snapped. Both were taken without a flash and that is the natural color of the cat's eyes, no PP other than crop on both.

This is mine. It is of my nephew at Christmas. I held this present off until last. Held it so he couldn't get it. He looked at it and was all smiling and everything and I took the picture. The true childs face of Christmas in every single way. No posing, no setup, completely unknown to him that I was pointing a camera at him.

Just saw this, sorry for the late reply. It was a young ska-punk band in Tokyo actually (he's Japanese). They're not famous (though very talented), but I do have it written down somewhere... they were just doing a gig while there was a free market going on that I was photographing. Not being famous means an amateur like me can get close to the stage ;)

Not to mention a lens worth a few grand.
For an 8 second exposure you can use M or Tv mode. Not sure about the particular camera buttons but rotate your dial until 8" is visible in the viewfinder. That is an 8 second exposure. Use a tripod and timer or remote release if you have one.

I just like how the colors turned out, the composition seems dead on, and my family loves it. It resembles a postcard. Anyway, enough babling, here it is.

I have two (yes pics not pic)
The first one is of two Tiger Lilies. It was my first real photo. What I mean by real is my first photo where I had an idea what I was doing.
The second is one I had taken for my brother last December right before he had to go to Iraq. I wanted to show him my appreciation for his service so I shot this image and gave it to him before he got on the plane. He was speachless and his tears showed me what he was feeling. So that's why I have two. The one that got me more involved in photography that led me to take the one that will always have a special meaning.

I think this is about the best ever picture I've managed to take to date. And I did it "blind" meaning my glasses were on my head, not my eyes and I had to stretch my arm right out to take the shot so even if my glasses were on my eyes, it wouldn't have mattered. I couldn't see a lot out of the view finder anyways. I fluked big time on this one. I used either the digital macro mode, or the portrait setting.

This first pic is the most special to me. This is my son Landon, a week after coming home from the hospital. He was born 3 months premature, and there were days we wondered if he would make it. He truly is a gift from God. I used my Digital Rebel with 300mm zoom.

This is my other favorite. This is a photograph of my daughter and her twin cousins taken just this month. I believe the photograph speaks for itself!

Some pictures of dogs departed to the Kennel in the Sky have recently been posted ...here's mine - a favourite picture.
Taken some years ago, this was originally a print from 35mm, scanned. Can't remember which camera/lens but it might have been N***n. (Hope this doesn't disqualify me!)

This is my favorite photo, from the Shwedagon Pagoda in Rangoon Burma. A 6 year old Budhist nun praying at sunrise. This is a one shot wonder. Lined it up, point, shoot and walked away. I saw how I wanted it in my head and gave here a whirl.
It wasnt a cannon I shot with so I wont say any thing but it's a cheasy point-n-shoot auto every thing camera. I have a EOS 30D in my near future.

Probably this:
http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h119/carrotcait/smallerdesaturatedmeee.jpg
Just because it's one of the first times I was completely pleased with how it turned out, because I think it's a good picture of me, and not only that but I think that I could truly count it as a "self-portrait," not just a picture I took of myself.
Or maybe this:
http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h119/carrotcait/miko1.png
Because it was the first time I really captured my dog the way I wanted to, because he doesn't take a good picture, usually, and I somehow managed to get just a touch of his spirit into it.
Or even:
http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h119/carrotcait/flowers.jpg
Because there's something quite endearing about those poor little nibbled-on flowers, and I'm sure there's lesson to be learned in the fact that they never fail to grow back the next year.

I have 2 favorites. The first one is my nephew and my mom's dog. He tries to pretend that he's a tough guy, but I came across him snuggling with Murphy and his cover was blown!

This is probably my favorite because it turned out so much better than I have a right to expect! It was taken on Mother's Day at my sister's house. Maybe one of you horticulturalists can be more specific as to the genus of this other than "Iris". In the full size image, the detail is incredible. And the bokeh isn't too bad for an f/4 lens, is it?

This is probably my favorite of favorites. I took it during a shoot on the island of Nevis and worked it into the beach as a reflection. I used my 17-85mm IS lens: http://www.betterphoto.com/gallery/big.asp?photoID=2968268&catID=&style=&rowNumber=18&memberID=177339
This photo is my second favorite. I took it with the same lens during a full moon on the island of St. Kitts. The movement and glow from the moon make this one of my 'keepers': http://www.betterphoto.com/gallery/big.asp?photoID=2974965&style=&contestCatID=&rowNumber=17&camID=&memberID=177339&zulu=
And, third, same lens, with a little fun in PS, this photo is right up there on my list of favs: http://www.betterphoto.com/gallery/big.asp?photoID=2941715&catID=&style=&rowNumber=19&memberID=177339
Lastly, and not least, this pier on the island of Nevis shot with the same lens ;-) came out really great after I removed a yellow railing, 3 boats, a man, background land and added some rocks to the front and smiling clouds. Hope you like it as much as I do: http://www.betterphoto.com/gallery/big.asp?photoID=3004191&style=&contestCatID=&rowNumber=21&camID=&memberID=177339&zulu=

Beth, I know that's an old post, but I don't remember seeing it before. I'm very curious where you shot that, though. I was guessing it was a local zoo at first, until I noticed the hyenas in the background. And I'm pretty sure the POTN Africa trip you're involved with hasn't taken place yet... So, where?
And I'm with your friends. I prefer the interaction in the second picture.

Took this one with my 28-80 Tamron cheap-o zoom.
This is a friend of mine from the military. He was dating this girl for months, and she was scared to tell her parents, because she knew they would wig out because her boyfriend was black. They ended up moving in together, and the parents, who live a few hundred miles away, still didn't know.
Anyway, we had a family day, and I took this picture. The next day, I printed and framed it, and gave it to them. They loved it, and I got a lot of satisfaction out of their reaction. The girl ends up using the picture for her MySpace picture. Her brother happens upon it, shows his mom, and the cat is out of the bag.
Her parents wig out at first, threaten to disown her. The mom has come around, and even met my friend. The dad is still holding out...
At first I really liked the composition of the photo. She's so white, and he is a fairly dark skinned black guy. The bridge in the background. The happy expressions on their face. But now, when I look at it, I think about all of the other stuff that went down because of the photo.

Ok, breaking the op's rules, but here's 2....my old fav and my new fav! My old fav was on our 3rd anniversary, with my old 20D and 17-85 IS. The old log cabin was originally a corn bin, now it's a bed and breakfast. Notice the old hand pick holding up the wooden window shutter, probably been doing that for some 80 years and the hickory handle is now a "c"!!
My new fav is of my Loving Wife, with my new 5D and 50mm 1.4, she's now pregnant with our 1st and simply glowing in this picture! :D God is Good!

Favourite bird shot because they are elusive at least have proven so over a good a many years of trying to get a close in shot like this. There’s a house fly on the back of the bird for reference as to how close it is. I was down in the bottom of the boat and kept the camera covering my face as the wind pushed the boat toward the nest. I don’t know if this is the male or female of the pair but it was the larger of the two and very protective of the eggs as I came to with in an arms length of it before it bolted.

That is one stunning photo of the stream! I know it was posted a long time ago but that is great! I'm going to the Smoky Mountains here soon and will try to get a shot close to that. Here is my strategy:
1. Mount on tripod
2. Turn off IS if I use an IS lens
3. Turn on Mirror lock up
4. Use remote switch
5. Put on ND Filter
6. Meter away from stream, towards the green
7. 100 ISO
8. F/22
9. Longer exposure time (>6 seconds)

Not posting this for the IQ but for the story...;) Took this about 2-3 years ago with an old 75-300 lens...

We spent the day at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California. We we walked up to the glass at the underside of one of the tanks and this sea lion was chasing it's flipper. All these kids had gathered around the glass and were marveling at this creature. I asked my son to scoot up to the window and whipped out the camera. I took one picture with all the kids, and then all the parents asked their kids to move out of the picture... it was perfect. A silouete of my son watching a sea lion!

Well, since you said FAVORITE, not BEST, I've gotta choose this one. The lighting isn't very good, and the sky is washed out, but it is of a spot that gives me a feeling I just can't describe. It is in Cleopatra Wash near Lake Mead, just outside of Las Vegas. I imagine it would be like a playground to a geologist. The colors in the rock are amazing, and the rock formations are wild. We have also seen bighorn sheep a couple of times out there, but unfortunately didn't get any really good shots of them.

This has probably got to be my favorite image. It's my best friend, Kodiak. I know it's not the greatest shot in the world, but it means the most to me. (Yeah...so emo, sorry)

This is my fave pic so far. It's a 5 second exposure of light reflecting on the water by the Bridgewater Concert Hall in Manchester. I like it cos it's weird! Taken with my little Canon Powershot.

Very few of my images are a recording of reality as it truly was. The reality of this shot is that I was out having a great day playing with my little cousin.

Red Arrows over Margate 2006.
I did not have my 70-200 then, so had to shoot everything with my 16-35. I just love the wacky result the polarizer produced and when I printed onto an 8x10 print it is so clear. Quite surreal. I had several like this.
If I could mention another member of POTN whose photo I admire most, it is this one:

You can see it in the POTN book as I discovered two days ago.

Definately one of my favorites. He suddenly just stopped and looked at me as if to say "are you done yet".

There are some very cool photos here. I love seeing the different things that people really pick out that they enjoy about photos.
Personally, I love black and white photography .. and I also equally love classic cars ... this is my favorite photo that I've taken as yet with my 20D.
