I want to take indoor facail photos without using flash to avoid shadow on background.
If I set ISO to 800 I get 1/30 and 4.0 which is enough to take sharp pictures.

I want to know whether higher ISO values changes the quality of the picture or not?

how does ISO change the picture quality?

I´ve had very good results with ISO 800 with little or no loss of quality (at least I think so ;)
For instance this: http://media8.triberadio.com/gallery/album16/aat

Combine ISO 800 with spot metering in low light conditions, in order to get a faster shutter speed and more accurate exposure.

I´ll leave the last part of your question to the experts :)

Had a look at some of your photo's Christel - cool! Some of them were excellent.

If your subject is staionary then your settings are fine. When I shoot indoor sports in typical high school gym, I found it necessary to use ISO1600, even when using f2.8 lenses wide open.

I noticed that under-exposure at ISO 800 produces noisier pictures than properly exposure ISO 1600 pictures.
