Hi,
I have a Canon D60 (Yea, bummer, now with the new D10 out...), my question is -
How can I reset the photo numbering on my camera?
Let's say i've put in a CF card and formated it, the photo numbers doesn't reset back to zero, and I don't have any way to know how many photos have I took, and how many do I have left...
Any ideas?
Thanks....

Do you mean how many you've taken with the D60 altogether? Or just with the CF currently in the camera?

I'm not interested in the total number i've took with the camera, but how many have I taken with a specific CF card, and if possible, how many photos (or space) do I have left on that card.
I would expact that number to reset when I format an already used CF card, but it doesn't....
Help please?

Are you looking at the top LCD display? When you have a newly formatted CF card, do you see a number like 30 when you briefly push the shutter button?

OK. Well, I guess the D60 is the same as the D30 and 10D: the shots remaining can be found on the top LCD. It's the large number at the top right. It is only an approximate guess because the size of each image file varies depending on how much the compression can save you. As you shoot you will find this number changing, so perhaps, it doesn't reset immediately a new card is inserted. I don't know: I use 1 gig cards, so it's a while before I worry about CF space. :)
As for how many shots, you've taken. I always use the review function, which shows a counter x/y.

I'm using a couple of 256MB CF cards.
The number on the top right corner of the LCD display is always between 100-160.
I wanted to know if there's a way to reset this number to zero when I format a CF card, and follow the number of photos i've taken?
Could this be a bug?

Question? Have you tried going to the Menu and scrolling down to File Numbering? You have two option: (1) Continuous or (2) Reset. If the camera is set to "Continuous Renumbering" it will continue to count upwards. If the camera is set to "Reset" it will reset the counter for each card everytime. Some cautions to watch and that depends on the way you use the camera. Since we are a portrait / wedding studio we photograph portraits with the camera set on "reset" since we normally only use one memory card per portrait session. For weddings you would want to shoot on continuous since you would be photographing with multiple memory cards and it would be a real headache to renumber 500 images if you had 8 cards that all had the same numbers on them. It can be done the other way but in my opinion it is easier to set the camera for the type of use that best suits your photographic habits. On the numbering on the top LCD Display sounds like you are shooting in one of the Jpeg modes. This number will change depending on the amount of information that is gathered in the jpeg images. This can be verified by photographing in different lighting conditions with different backgrounds you will see that the jpeg file size will very per each image. So you can gain images per each shot taken depending on the captured file size. On our D30 we could get anywhere from 36 to 41 images on a 256MB card captured in Canon RAW Format. So it would not be uncommon to look at the top of the camera and you would think that you would have 70 images left and then take another shot and look at it again and it would say 70 images still remaining. But if you look at the counter on the LCD Monitor on the back of the camera you will see that it truely did advance by one number.
Hopefully this will give you some insight.

No, it's meant to display the shots remaining. It's much more important to know this with digital than film because there isn't a fixed number of shots per card (plus a lot more card capacities than film).
