View Full Version : Is this too much to charge?

The other day I ask a sports team if I could shoot a game for them .

I talked to the team captain, and he asked me ok, but how much would I charge. I told him that I would not charge him for taking the pics and that I would give him (for the team) a copy at no charge. Since I wanted to basically build my portfolio.

However, if anyone wants extra copies, I would have to charge them.

Is $20.00 U.S. asking to much per copy?

thanks

Are you talking about an 8x10 color print, or something different? Are you talking about one group shot, or maybe individual "sports-action" shots?

I think that is the right approach to break into that kind of photography. If you want to keep it all foolproof, then you might want to get the team captain to sign a Model Release.

That way, if anybody wants to complain, you can simply tell them to go complain to the team captain.

left out some good details,

thanks Bob,
the shots are being taken anywhere from 75-125 per game.

After doing so, I , of course d-load to my computer, select the best one I feel are appropiate and fill a CD (using a CD burning software) with about 30-35 shots.

No prints outs are giving at all.

A cd pretty much, costing about $20.00 US is what I figure is ok with me.

but I don't know...

p.s. where can I get a sample or template of a model release or should I just make one up?

I took standard Model Release text and cut it down to the least amount of text to read with the necessary signature line, printed name and address lines, date, etc.

Then I printed that on the back side of my photo business cards. When I have discussed the matter with the team captain, then I get him to sign one, which I keep, and then I give another blank one for him to keep.

I've never supplied my photo files to anybody (for money) on a CD, so I will not comment on that.

The problem with selling them the CD is if anyone wants to they can copy the cd and pass them out SO you have to make sure to give them something saying the CD is NOT FOR COPY or DISTRIBUTION, etc.....

Sometimes when I do sports I put the pics up on a web page with a "watermark" on them so people can see them but would not want to print them... Then I give them an order form (at the game) that tells them where to "view" and order the pics... You can get more money this way. It is MORE WORK though.

Good luck!
