With my warranty just passed out a few months ago...
I just found out a couple of broken pixels on my S30's sensor.... :(
i get 2 blues and 1 white at shutters 1/30 and faster....
and about 20+ at 1s.... no very visible though...
and at 2s and slower... none!
could anyone tell me if i've better replacing the sensor or just remapping the pixels?
also.... how much would canon or anyone else charge to do those jobs?
thanks a million =)

Hi i don´t have a solution but i´ve got the same problem. I bought the S30 about 8 months ago and changed it for a new one 5 times due to dead pixels.
A friend of mine has the same camera and changes his one 3 times. I don´t know what it is with the S30 but the CCD is a bad product...
tomorrow i´ll send my S30 back to replace it again. Guess why: dead pixel... I´m NOT a happy S30 user!
I even found a program that fixes the dead pixels in your jpeg files: http://www.nabocorp.com/cam2pc/index.php

Thanks for the link to that program. Good thing to test once in a while. So far I have 1 hot pixel on my s30. I don't think its a big deal to have a couple hot/dead pixels. With most things like CCD's, CRT's and LCD's you can find several of them.

I have an S30 and don't know too much of photography.
How can I find if my camera is having the same problem?
I would like to discover it before the warranty expiration.
You can e-mail me at chiquito003@aol.com.
Thanks

Take an upclose picture of something black (or just take a picture in pure darkness - without the flash of course). Open the picture and look for pixels that aren't black. They'll probably be a bright white, green, or blue.

yeah... but you should set the shutter speed to less than 1sec.... otherwise the noise reduction would kick in and fix "hot pixels" if there were any.....
