I’m experimenting with the Sigma 15-30EX wide angle lens. Jury is still out. I can’t describe it, but the images just lack some detail and depth that I constantly get with Canon L and prime lenses. In general, this is a fine lens and since I don’t focus on wide shots, it will almost certainly suit me fine. But I am eager to try the new Canon 17-40 L.

Dan- Did you notice that the colors are more saturated with the Sigma - than the Canons? That's my observation.

I would imagine there is a huge price difference between the sigma & the Canon "L"

I think its about a thousand dollar difference if I remeber correctly,.. I could be wrong but I'm think its the 1300.00 Canon lens vs a 450.00 Sigma? Somewhere in that ballpark?

current prices for the 17-40L and the 15-30 are $750 and $550 respectively. Really it's only $200 bucks. I say test drive the 17-40L, see if it makes images you are happier with. I am admittedly not a huge fan of Sigma glass (at least they beat tamron) but it seems to me the images you are posting with that 15-30 are pretty nice. I really enjoyed the image of the hanging cans you posted a while back.
