I am still experimenting with my 100-400 lens and today I added the Canon TC 2x. The f-stop set at f11, 1/250 sec iso 400. Background looks a little odd, not certain as to the cause, perhaps someone could comment.

Dennis it looks pretty good to me. I've started to use the manual focus with my 100-400 instead of the AF even center point and it seems I can get a bit sharper pic that way. It seems your focus is off the tiniest bit. Did you shoot AF? Also I've read complaints of loss in quality with the 2x.

It will not allow automatic focus. Thanks for the comments.

The background blur on the left? I don't know, but I have suspicions that it may be the IS system trying to budge one part when the shutter is flying.

---Bob Gross---You know, you might be right. I had IS on, but it was on a tripod (it should have been off). Thanks.

Nice Wimbrel!

I think a 2x TC might be pushing it for this lens. A 1.4 might be it's limit, simply due to all the glass involved. This one might need so more sharpening to make it shine.

MarcThanks Marc for the comments, I did run a sharpening script in Photoshop for this capture.

Would a 2x TC work for my 70-200L f/4 glass?

Would a 2x TC work for my 70-200L f/4 glass? The was copied from the 'sticky' at the head of the EF and EF-S lens forum:
"This tele extender can be used with fixed focal length lenses 135mm and longer (except the 135mm f/2.8 Softfocus lens), and the EF 70-200 f/2.8L, 70-200 f/2.8L IS, 70-200 f/4.0L, and 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS zoom lenses.
The EF 2x II doubles the focal length of any lens it's mounted to, and reduces its effective aperture by two stops. With the EF 2x II, AF is possible with any EOS body if the lens has an f/2.8 or faster maximum aperture, and compatible Image Stabilization lenses maintain the IS feature when used with any current EOS camera." So I think it will. I am to experiment more with ISO and flash to make up my mind.
