what are some of your favorite vacation locations where you were able to consistently find "great" views, people and things to photograph?

yes its a vacation, but i only rest when i take photos as wild as that may sound.
its a great hobby and like to travel to another country for the sake of taking photos.
7 days i can stretch it to 14 days if the price is right (cheap hotel, low cost of "living", aka 3 meals a day for 14 days)

I really enjoy going to Paris. LOTS to take pictures of + great food and wine :-)

Tofino on Vancouver Island is also very beautiful. Long wild beaches, whales, eagles,
awesome winter storms.

Trinidad
Its a Robbison Carusoe type island that is overlooked by too many people wanting Jamaica, Bahamas, Aruba, etc.

Definitely worth checking out.

One beautiful little city is Luang Prabang,, more of a large village or town than a city.. It's a World Heritage sight..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luang_Prabang

The further north you go the more remote. One place I love is Luang Namtha about 30-40 kilometres from the Chinese border. Great landscapes, mountains, rivers etc. This region also has the greatest ethnic diversity in Laos.. Little ethnic villages perched on mountain sides..

Then, head a little further north to Muang Sing,, about 10 kilometres from the Chinese border.. This is getting quite remote but easy to get to.

In Luang Prabang,, I always stay at Villa Senesouk.. Quiet central and within walking distance from the night markets and most of the resturants.. I've been staying there eveytime I go to Luang Prabang, since 2004. Rooms are about $35-$45 per night.

In Luang Namtha, across the street from the markets on the main drag.. There's a little boutique styled hotel called Zeula.. About $25 per night and very central.

Also check out the Boat Landing. A little dearer but it's part of the eco-tourism trail. I love it here.

In Muang Sing I've stayed here,,Anousone Guest House.

45 per night is MORE than reasonable. i mean im used to spending quadruple that. so a one week stay should be VERY affordable, now pending on plane tickets.

you must travel there alot, you seem to know the ins and outs. which is good!!
i think we want a place close to food, for i love to eat and so does my wife, so a place close to restaurants or local markets would be great and you mentioned that already. great great great

I get up to the north of Laos a couple of times through the year,,especially Luang Prabang. It's getting a tad touristy these days but not as bad as Thailand.

Luang Prabang has some of the best food in Laos. There is a restaurant called 3 Nagas which occasionally gets write-ups in Marie Claire and other publications around the world. The street food is also great.

Go to New Zealand, hire a car, and take a drive from Christchurch to Queenstown, nothing beats it...

San Francisco.

If you can't get a few shots that you'll really like in the Bay Area, sell your gear and take up something else.

Vancouver Island is highly recommended :D

If you like landscapes and wildlife, 2 weeks in the canadian rockies is a nice option as well (i.e. Jasper, Banff, Wells Gray, etc).

Go to New Zealand, hire a car, and take a drive from Christchurch to Queenstown, nothing beats it...

Even better fly direct into Queenstown, stay around the South Island for a full month during Autumn.

Another option: hiking in Swiss Alps in Autumn...

Spain and Italy are also beautiful...

If not for the fact that I don't even have a month of leave AND need to work for money, I'd be taking a year off work!
