View Full Version : A80 didn't shoot and beeped

I just tried to take a picture of a flock of geese flying just overhead in the evening twilight. In a rush I switched my A80 on, and while the lens was coming out I switched the setting to Auto, aimed and pressed the shutter button. Nothing happened. After 4-5 seconds with my finger still on the button, I noticed the camera was making one long beep noise, which stopped when I took my finger off the shutter button.

Needless to say I'm annoyed I missed (what might have been) a great shot, but am also at a loss to explain the camera's behaviour. I've since tried unsuccessfully to replicate the effect, even by accidentally pressing another button along with the shutter button (which might have happened in the rush).

Has anyone else had this problem?

I think you're asking too much from that camera. P&S cameras are for family pictures. It happened to me either when in a burst mode only have taken about 2 or 3 pics then the camera started to beep and not being able to do anything with it for about 30 sec. until it finished writing to the CF( S50 ). Then I tought I'll buy a DSLR.

I've had mine for over a year and can't say I've had this problem. It often doesn't respond if you rush it, but that's just part of having this more basic sort of camera. I guess you expected too much of it in too short a space of time!

Yeah I guess you're right, I expected it to respond a bit faster than it was designed for. I've been toying with the idea of getting something with a faster response time too.... Oh well, thanks for the replies anyway!

I don't know that mine has ever beeped, but it does "Freeze", so to speak, when I ask too much of it. I have to turn it off and on again to get it to work sometimes.
