Slide duplicator

Does anyone of slide duplicator availabe for a G6? Or a way to duplicate slide with the G6?

It may be somewhat crude, but you could simply project the slide onto a smooth, clean, white surface and shoot with the the camera. Correct white balance and watching the angles will result in usable images. (Keep the projected image fairly small.)

Better would be to put the slide on a light table and position the camera up close in macro mode to shoot the slide; in a pinch, hold the slide next to the lens -- if the G6 will focus that close -- and point it toward a white, uniformly lit surface.

Purists, please don't cringe at the above advice... I've done both and it does work if nothing else is available. I'm sure there must be some plastic gizmos that will hold a slide and fit over a typical P & S camera lens, but I don't have any specific recommendations.

I've been archiving family photos as i visit family members by simply shooting macro photos of the photos, using a mini tripod and some black cardboard to block reflections. It's not the best way to do it, but it's working pretty well and when send everyone in my family a DVD with hundreds of family photos on it, no one's going to complain. I bet the projection idea would work pretty well, maybe even better than the gizmos they sell to do it.

Search the archives, this topic's been brought up before, and if i remember correctly the general consensus was that the gizmos didn't work that well and the amount of effort needed to copy a large number of slides made the expense of a professional slide-scanning service or a desktop slide scanner seem like a much better option.

If our objective is to digitize tons of slides and old family pictures, I would recommend getting a scanner that does both. Good scanners can be had for around $100 and they work pretty good, and most have scratch/dust filters that can make the copies look better.
