I'm not kidding here.. I always watch movies where you see people working in these like.. office settings, in little cubicles, and they have their own table and computers and they're picking up phones, and faxing things, and printing things out, and making phone calls, etc. What kind of job is this? Where you work in an office setting as described above ^?

Nothing I'm currently unemployed but seeking a retail position as of now. I'm just wondering what type of job it is cause I always see it in movies.

I was a self-employed video production technician for many years and whenever I'd get really fed up with my situation, I'd go get a few days working for Ford Motor Company's operation.

Every morning, I'd see the poor, dumb bastards coming to work wearing the same blue suit with brown shoes and carrying the same lunch their wives made for them that they've eaten for 20 years and suddenly, I felt a whole lot better about being freelance! ;)

I was lucky enough to always have my own office but my staff lived in cubicle world. I've been to some office buildings where you get off the elevator and all you can see is cubicles for as far as you can see.

What you are explaining is virtually any large company in any city in the world. If you are seriously considering a job like that you should probably spend some time in college or university first.

those are office jobs, mostly in buildings... if you gonna work in retail then maybe check out your accounting department, it will probably look like what you are describing :D

In many ways these jobs are similar to viewing this forum. You spend a lot of time feeling like you are getting things done, and doing productive research, but in reality, you are just treading water.

Aren't they called work-stations? Working in retail, you'll more likely be walking about on your feet in a shop or maybe sitting at a check-out.

in my experience, a workstation is what they're referred to when you do something like call center work or phone support. When you're a professional they call it a cubicle, who knows why...all the same to me and I'm a professional lol.

Obviously, the OP is not a Dilbert afficionado: http://dilbert.com/.

Beware of pointy-haired bosses!

Based on all his other posts I'm beginning to wonder if the OP is even for real.

That would be a job working for almost any local, state government or the federal government. They act like they're working but really they make phone calls to friends, surf the internet (POTN), check personnel e-mail, fax personnel documents, print out jokes and such..

Over here they are provided with a chair and either sit or stand according to whether it's their feet or bum that's aching :)

Indeed, but his reputation is beginning to go before him :)

The real jobs are where you sit on the phone talking to folks or haunt forums all day while pushing papers around to look busy to your boss.
