we ended a tad too early for drinks.
You think so?
Well, his absence from the forum has cause B&H to lose at least one sale, while Helen's presence and activity here has garnered Adorama lots of my dollars—and, being a parsimonious old git, I don't part with them casually.
B&H and Adorama sell the same stuff at virtually the same prices. What do they have to compete with except service? And ombudsmen are a significant factor in that service, at least to me.
Henry may of may not shoot Nikon, in fact, he may shoot Sony for all I know. Or he may hate photography and shoot nothing at all. I don't care. But he does seem to have a wee bit of a Nikonitude, and about that I care.

But yeah it does suck... the day in a half delay in him getting the box out means that I won't get my package until 4 days after it would have come. :( I'm a bit annoyed right now... Jon,
Ford are good and even better some classes of vehicles as in trucks F250 or Mustangs than Volvo...to be sure some Gitzo's are better but at additional cost compared to Manfrottos.Yeah. And how many Ford semis are there on the road vs. Volvos? I drive a 17 YO Volvo wagon that's cherry. Never could say that about even 8 year old Fords. Point is, a Lexus is a Toyota with a different badge; like a Pontiac is a Chevy with a different badge. Gitzos aren't clones of Manfrottos.
relax, you still don't have your CPU ;)
Jon, the second link I provided: this one Vertical Rail w/ no end clamp (http://reallyrightstuff.com/ProductDesc.aspx?code=CRD-Rail&type=0&eq=CRD-RAIL-001&desc=CRD-Rail%3a-Vertical-rail-w%2f-on-end-clamp) is described by RRS as follows:
and the other component that I posted: the 192 Precision Plus Package ("Sliding Clamp Package" with Mini-Clamps on MPR-192 Rail. Mini-clamps can be separated and orientation changed 90° to accept quick-release plates with dovetails running left/right and fore/aft,) has clamps that can be adjust from left to right...
except for the rails to be a bit long I don't see why they won't double as an L-bracket if combined together. and yes I am well aware that I still need to get an A-S plate for both :D
yeah there are heavy duty Manfrotto's out there but man are they big hehe
ohh I meant that as a joke
hmmm... if that's the case I can just buy the head alone and install the clamp
no way am I gonna blowtorch a $400 head haha I don't even have a blowtorch to begin with
I see, I think I might have been confused, I ordered it on sunday evening here, so its Sunday morning there, but was not picked up until monday evening...Unless and until you see an L bracket in operation, you won't be able to appreciate the difference between that and what you're thinking of. An L bracket all by its self on a ball head will give you what you need those two pieces (at more $US) to do.

I always thought Gitzo was their own manufacturer and distrbiuted by someone else. I can't recall the name of the company. Isn't it Bogen?
Manfrotto and Gitzo are both based out of Italy, They all belong to the same group, Vitec group. Manfrotto distributes Gitzo...like a Lexus to a Toyota. Gitzo is the more expensive brands, models, products vs a cheaper Mafrotto's
A Lexus has better parts, features than a regular Toyota, same is true withGitzo's to Manfrottos, but when you belong to the same group, product synergy, or "cloning" in some ways happen...look at MB RS model which are based on the Chrysler Pacifica, this was When Daimler owned Chrysler, in some ways it works for better products, sure Gitzo carbon conposites may be extremely light and if they own some propritary techniques this will flow into Manfrottos.
As I said, Manfrottos models are good enough for me, for richer folks Gitzo's are for them
For Steven who is in Cebu, yes buying the better model once offers a better TCO in the longterm because of difficulty, cost to ship than geeting first and resell a lower priced Manfrotto would cst mre in the longer term.

on my recent research ;) I say there are no equivalent Manfrotto for Gitzo series 3xxx and 5xxx... so yes you are correct. I think the cost is somewhat justified... again Tony taught us the value of TCO vs. TCA ;)
There's nothing wrong with Bogen/Manfrotto quality but, as you said the cost is justifiable with Gitzo.

somebody will argue though that with the weight of the current gear we have we really don't need those legs though... but I feel like for tripods, overkill is always a good thing hehe

You also have to understand that Gitzo is an ultra light material plus the processs of manufacturing/engineering in the material itself is what you pay for. If you're carrying 20-30 lbs of gear in the bag plus a tripod, it helps in saving weight. CF is best at dampening vibration while aluminum is not. I'm not telling you to buy one but, I'm sold on the way Gitzo does the job. :)

When I have my Lowepro backpack loaded with camera, filters, lenses, etc., it gets pretty heavy. I barely feel the weight with the Gitzo when it's on there along for the ride. Just my experience. :)
