only 1 more year!

You also have to understand that Gitzo is an ultra light material plus the processs of manufacturing/engineering in the material itself is what you pay for. If you're carrying 20-30 lbs of gear in the bag plus a tripod, it helps in saving weight. CF is best at dampening vibration while aluminum is not. I'm not telling you to buy one but, I'm sold on the way Gitzo does the job. :)

True, I do not have a light composite travel tripod yet and Gitzo or Benro would be good choices...currently I use the smaller aluminum manfrotto tripod and simple head for air travel. the larger heavier Manfrotto tripod and head is what I use when I travel by car.

So I think what a better analogy for Jon, JD and other Gitzo users would like is Mercedes Benz to Dodge when Daimler owned Chrysler rather than Lexus and Toyota.

Melbourne would be awesome i'm checking on plane tickets now, so much for those wheels i was talking about Omar.

We went for a month to Australia, JUST before psycho tourist season (Mid nov - Mid Dec is when we went). Temps were fantastic and hot, no days of rain - ironic, the day we left Brisbane, is the day they had a month of straight rain that led to their floods.

Prices were great. If you're really serious, send me a PM for more info.

Black Friday is on Nov. 26. I doubt RRS and B&H will have sales. Although, rebates for Canon and Nikon should be around that time.

No, I loved Sydney. And should I get another offer next year from my guys, we will move.

At least I have the option of:

Sydney
Brisbane
Melbourne
Perth
Adelaide
Wellington (NZ)
Auckland (NZ)

for the kind of work I do :D:D

The big, big, big, mining industry in Australia keeps the power industry afloat down there :D
That would be awesome... coal mining is really big business there as far as I know, first time I saw a train that looks like 2 kilometers or more long hehe

Friday after thanksgiving. Sounds like a good time for them to have a sale but i wouldn't hold my breath.
ahhh... I see I wonder if those sales would be applicable to me though... I assume it will be as long as its not mail in rebates or coupons hehe

Just the black one will do. We don't want to stand out to much.
I doubt we would fit in there though  that's probably smaller than my whole foot

Absolutely. 2 days of diving and snorkelling was the BEST part of our entire trip. You can easily find week long diving trips, where 5-6 of you get a yacht (with crew) to go diving.

Yup. Uranium, Bauxite, all kinds of mineral mining, especially in Western Australia. Would I really be willing to move to the most remote city on the planet? Possibly so.

I believe they also have the longest section of straight road and rail (the trains have alarms that go off every 10 minutes to keep the drivers awake, as it is just a straight for 380km+)

I don't see any good news to save the DOW. The current agreement won't even cut the debt, just the deficit. So delaying the inevitable crash that will come due to bankruptcy, insane inflation, or massive job losses when people start to really cut the money. Markets went down as fast as they went up when they announced "we saved defaulting", as HSBC announced a 33,000 job loss spree etc. etc.

you just have to choose between a leveling base and a video bowl I think, and its primarily needed for Panoramic shots only...other than that looks like we don't need it

There's a technique if I recall where you take multiple images of the same scene and stack them together. I'm not sure what software these guys use but, that's how they achieve the images.

Stars shoots are good night shot practice, take more of the skies, less of the trees, foreground, the Milky Way runs from North to Soutwesr...like this shoot is looking North

Have to say I agree with most of that. I usually not one to like taking photos of people, as I find nature and wildlife more interesting as subjects for the most part. Also, I tend to feel a little uncomfortable when put on the spot taking shots of people. There are some acceptions of course.....And if I do end up taking a shot of a person, it's usually a candid (or the like) that I took just on a whim.
