That's what I call them, but I'm not sure of specific type. Shot with 100-400 mm.

Excellent shots !
The ID of these little shore birds is often difficult based on still images(sumer/winter garb, adults/juveniles...:) )
I think the first one is a Turnstone.
The second one may well be some sort of a small Sandpiper ?

I agree with Petkal, seems like number one is Ruddy Turnstone, the second one, CDS, does seems like a Sanderling, hard to tell the size perspective from the photo. The Sanderlings are coming through California in huge flocks.

Despite the apparent uncharacteristic elongation of the birds body, possibly as a result of the shot perspective , I agree with Cyber and Dancinec on bird#2 being a Sanderling.:)

Nice pair of shots. The turnstone seems a little bit out of focus though.
