Hello everyone,
Thought I would share my best images yet from the 10D. I was at Longwood gardens in Philadelphia area the other day, and took these pictures. Much of the technical information is there, so I will not reiterate it here. In a nutshell I am very pleased, the AF seems to be perfect, I prefer to underexpose 1/2 (occasionally 1) stop for better color saturation and detail in the lighter colors.

I am not a professional photographer, but have been using fine film SLRs for a number of years. Keep in mind that these were taken on a family outing, and not on a dedicated photo-shoot.
I hope to fill in some of the missing technical information once I return to my office and can view the exif info.
Comments welcome.

Those are gorgeous pictures. I love the heron with the blurred wingtips but the head and eyes soo clear,. even if it was a mistake,. I think it was a brilliant accident! If it was planned,. well then wow!

lluscombe,
Nice pictures! I've been to Longwood Gardens several times myself and it really is a nice place! It's one of my favorite places to take visitors from out-of-town and especially those from out-of-country.
Just one side note for you re your web page. I think you have the year wrong. It says 2002 instead of 2003 (unless you got a proto type 10D long before the production models were released :D )

PacAce,
Thanks for the note. I have corrected the date.
The Heron pictures are all crops. Most of the others have not been cropped.
Thanks for the comments. This camera may not be the ULTIMATE, my Nikon D1 seemed more responsive, but overall it is extremely imressive. I have somewhat altered my shooting style to suit the camera, and continue to be very impressed. The Canon lenses seem to perform quite well also. I sold my entire Nikon system and dove into Canon sight unseen, nad so far have very few regrets, though "Nikon" seems to have more prestige. The D1 with an 80-200 f2.8 lens was far more impressive than this camera, for looks, but the small size and weight of the 10D make it wonderful to use and carry.

IIuscombe!
I love your pics, especially as the theme is something I have always enjoyed here in New Zealand.
I think our lighting is a bit different here.
I thought your macros were softer than I would want them 'though very much a personal preference.
Whether it reflects your DOF or the camera or by choice I would love to know.
I'd imagine myself sharpening up thru parameters [?]
but have yet to get my 10D to really appreciate its
joys.
My best

Yep! Cool pics. Again, especially like the heron with the blury wing tips and background motion blur. And that flower like the row of bells - nearly didn't bother with that one but glad I did. Lovely delicate picture.
I love my 10D, 10D, yeah, yeah, yeah! 8)

Nitely,
The DOF is shallow, and they are hand held in rather low light. I wish I had the opportunity to bring my tripod, but it was unfeasable. Yes, they are somewhat soft as a result, DOF is probably about f5.6; I would have preferred f11 to f16, but this would have required a tripod.
Thanks for the comments. Have a great day.

10D has wider color gamut than D30. Be sure to Shoot in the Adobe RGB mode to get very nice saturated color.

Hi,
I have not yet used Adobe RGB, simply because I don't know what is required. Do I have to change all of the ICC profiles for my image editing and printing software?

Great Pics !!!!
Longwood Gardens is one of the best spots for flower photography that I've ever been too. when I lived in Philly I used to go to Longwood at least once a month to do flower photography. my favorite was the greenhouse and the Orchid room. after seeing your pics, I definately will have to make a trip up to the PA area again so that I can visit the gardens.

This is a setting in your 10D camera.
1) Press menu button to bring up menu
2) Select Parameters option
3) Set Adobe RGB option.
This will instruct 10D to use wider gamut to capture the color.
No you do not have to change ICC profiles of your older files. The newer files shot with Adobe RGB will be tagged by camera and Photoshop will use wider gamut to display and print it.
Hope this helps.

One more Adobe RGB question.
Does it effect the jpegs? Or does this only effect raw files?

soumya63,
I forgot to congratulate you on the portrait. Very well done, I would expect you do this for a living.
I am aware of the Adobe RGB setting in the camera. However, I will have to see what Qimage will do with the setting. Do you think it makes a large difference? I guess I should just test and see. I find that the normal setting "bleaches" the highlights (normal for digital photography in my experience). I would hope that the Adobe setting would help in this regard (as it is said to do). I have been adjusting to the system switch (Nikon to Canon) and have wanted to play with the Adobe setting, but wished to have a feel for the camera's capabilities "out of the box" so to speak.
I am also wondering about the previously posted question. No doubt, it could be easily solved by reading the manual, or a few minutes of shooting, but if you have a quick answer, it wouild be appreciated.

Not really. I am a software engineer and that is my primary profession. Photography is my passion. From this year I have started to take it as a side business to generate more cashflow for the latest toys.
I do not use Qimage as I am totally dedicated to Photoshop. However, Adobe RGB does make a great difference.
