I thought I would see if there is any hope of copying slides with a B+W 10X close-up lens equipped G2… The slide used is a twenty year old 35mm Kodachrome image.
The left image is from a Nikon Coolscan IV with ICE (dust removal) set on “fine” (this is the most aggressive setting and so some sharpness was lost).
The right image is the Canon G2 with B+W 10X close-up lens (they call it a macro lens).
The canon image has undergone some “cloning tool” dust cleanup in Photoshop 6.0 and has been sharpened.

As you can see that while neither one is great, and either would work for a web image, the Coolscan image would definitely produce a better print. Particularly annoying in the G2 plus close-up lens shot, is the visible chromatic aberration causedby the close-up lens. (Look at the edge of the Teak gunwale (upper edge of the side of the boat for you farmers out there…).
Greetings from Wisconsin,
Dave
Note: The color of the water is accurate. The photo was taken on March 1st 1980 off of Rockaway NY. The air temperature was in the 40s F, the water temp was in the 30s, and seawater gets dark those temps. It is interesting to note that my wife and I were sailing our brand new Whitehall for the first time. And yes, it was pretty stupid to be out that far on the ocean in an open 15 footer in those temps. (It was however one of the best days of our lives.)
