im not really a landscape kinda guy. I've probably shot 50 landscapes out of 50,000 shots this year...LOL...

Not a bad picture sirsloop.

A few things I noticed in your pic though, was that a few spots in the sky seem a bit blown out (or is it just me...), and the pic looks a bit crooked. Should be able to correct or adjust both in PS. Other than this, it's a nice picture considering you don't really take much of any landscape photos, as you said your self.

If you do go back and adjust the photo, post it so we can see it. :)

Nice shot. I'll go with Geoff's comments about the blow out and tilt.

sirsloop
19th of October 2006 (Thu), 22:12
yeah a 1° CCW rotate in PS would fix that, and I havent quite figured out how to do those damn HDR's in brigde+PS so I had to blow out the sky to get the ground to look proper. My circular polarizer arrives tomorrow actually... so that will help :)

like I said... im no landscaper. I shoot action... A LOT of action.

I have used a CPL a lot in the past for landscape work and increasingly found it to be a pain in the butt as it give uneven colours in the sky.

Sometime ohowever it is a really god tool for landscape - depends on the direction one is shooting in an the time of day.

Here are a couple more I did on the same day there...

Tips: cropping, subject and as a lecturer once said "if the sky is uninteresting - leave it out."

I really like this thread a lot and it must give many viewers a location to learn about good landscape work and view great images from posters.

This Sticky Thread was set up for members to post "Your Best Landscape" and not as a critique thread.

Please don't feel free to post stuff that isn't your best work, there are other threads for that.

If it's blurry, tilted, blown out, uninteresting and just not your best work please think thrice about posting it.

Sorry if this sounds strong but I can't think of any other way to express this! :)

sirsloop
20th of October 2006 (Fri), 08:22
well... seeing as how I never shoot landscapes, this IS my best! HAHAH!!

Wanna make a "best action" thread? I'll post up some stunning photos in there ;)

ooOoo.... I remeber I snapped one with a 70-200 f/2.8 while shooting a jets game at the meadowlands...

No one has any humor left apparently.

Geoff_Shawcross

*EDIT*

Sirsloop, we do have humour......But you must restrain your self from name calling (what was editted out). There was no humour in that. If you do have more landscape photos (like the first one, not the second two) that you consider to be some of your best work (landscape wise), then by all means post them here and we will look at them. If they are not you best landscape photos, just post them in a more approapriate thread and we will still look at them. I've looked at some of your other photos that you have posted on the site, and you are quite good. Wayne was just attempting to keep this thread on topic, that is all (the way I see it anyways).

Wow. This is a fantastic thread!

My shot here was taken about a year ago, before I got my slr. It was resized (and unfortunately cut down to jpeg 2 or something to fit it under the 100kb) but otherwise, right out the camera. It was taken with a Kodak C340, which at the time retailed for $AUS250... I don't know what the pro's will be say but I was pretty thrilled with that shot :)

New to this forum, I've just spent over an hour looking at each photo in this thread. There are some truly awesome photographs here and obviously some very talented people. Such clarity and light! I've been taking pictures in my spare time (mostly vacations) for over 40 years and I can only hope that I will some day I'll have one or two as good as some of these.

What better way to make my first post than to throw out one of my photos? Here's one from a Grand Canyon trip last Fall. (If I can figure out how to get enough quality into 100 kb...)

Well this is not only my best so far but only one of two since I have been trying landscapes just lately. I posted it yesterday and didn't get too many comments so maybe it is not so hot. Here goes I will play also.:-?

Hi! Juu, eli yes... I'm from Turku at the moment. The shot is taken from lake Alakitka, Kuusamo, not from the archipelago. :)

Out of 4000+ landscapes shot this year alone, this is unlikely to be the best. However, it is a favorite because of the effort required to get it. We drove 75 miles or so out of our way, then hired a Jeep and driver to take us the last 6 miles (more than an hour) on the roughest trail I've been on. But, it's a classic scene from Colorado, the Crystal Mill.

Amazing photo!!

Great picture Becky. It would be interesting to see this same picture done again once everything is in full bloom. :)

Hmm......Actually, why not a four season set. Do one in the spring, summer, and fall to compliment this great winter one. I think that would make a great set of shots. But hey, just my two cents....hehehe.

Nice shot Becky. Looks like spring is there already. Open water would do it for me; we still have more than a foot of white stuff on the ground here.

Good idea and easy enough to do, as long as the water level is down, this a very low foot bridge I'm on and is underwater a lot in the spring.

Thanks. The 2nd, 4th and 5th were taken on my 5D with the L 17-40 mm lense full wide. The others were taken on my Nikon D70 somewhere between 18 and 70. :)

Some of them are a bit blurred at 72 res actually. They look better normally. i forgot to sharpen them after changing the resolution.

These are great Jeremy, the second one seems cropped a bit too much for my taste though, I'd like to see more on each side as well as maybe a bit more sky. It feels cramped. :)

Yea the problem with the area is that the trees and a faux damn are right where I am standing. So the sides get kinda blocked. I am planning to go back this year (its only about a 45 min drive and 1 1/2 hr hike to get to the spot, so hopefully I will get some better pics then.

Difficult to pick one, but most people really like this one. It's actually luck I got the shot, because I had just got my first SLR and really didn't know how to use it. I was shooting in Landscape mode most of the trip. Anyway, decided to do a long exposure, and randomly cranked the ISO to the max at 1600 and it turned out right.
