Great picture ThomasEd, but I think you might want to look into cleaning your lens or your camera sensor, as one of them apears to be very dirty.

The picture its self though is very nice. :)

ThomasEd
29th of June 2007 (Fri), 19:09
Yeah, the Whitehaven picture was taken with an old camera and lens that we used for work, so wasnt always looked after that well, and it was out the side of a helicopter, which was where we usually used the camera, so it tended to pick up a lot of contamination. I learnt that one early on and try and take much better care of my own lenses. I suppose it probably could be photoshoped, but there is a lot of dust and scratch on the lens.
Thanks for your comments though.

USE GND.
you should understand how to meter the exposure so you won't blown out the clouds.
if no GND then try Circular polarizer.
I thought it is difficult to have clouds in the shot, but then i found it not that difficult at all.
Second, his photo seems like HDR, so tell me, is there clouds in Australia yet? i am coming soon there so i don't want to come without clouds there, hehe:D

Beautiful HDR. Or am I wrong?

Thank you. It is an HDR of sort. It is certainly more than one layer. the moon was a separate shot. other than that its not a true HDR, since a single raw file was used, just with two different adjustments and layering.

http://www.dvdpimages.com/images/landscapes/thumbs/IMG_1322_23.jpg (http://www.dvdpimages.com/images/landscapes/IMG_1322_23.jpg)

I merged 2 shots to accomplish this. Taken with my 400D with Sigma 17-70 @ 19mm with F/5 1/60s for the bottom part and F/5.6 1/125s for the top. Manually merged in PSP.

exif = camera settings, like aperture, shutter, ISO etc. It is automatically stored in the original jpg/raw files (you can find it in the properties). A good piece of software like Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro will let you save it inside your processed jpg's too :)

Posted on another thread but one of my favorites. You have to see the large version to see it all.

EDIT: If you look in the direction my daughter is looking, you can see the outline of another Island. It is the Island of Molokai.

Beautiful, and the inclusion of your little girl just makes it that much better!

How many shots did you stitch together to get that panorama?

Thanks pradeep! I believe it was 5 shots stitched with PSCS3. Adobe really improved their stitching program from PSCS2.

That's your problem... "clear" is supposed to be used to remove haze when taking far away mountains, for example. That's on paper. In reality, that picture style is mostly unusable.

There are some amazing photos in this thread. In fact, I just spent almost 30 minutes looking through all of the pages, and I'm pretty sure that every single photo was awesome :)

Here's my contribution ... I went hunting for trains and such right when I got my 20D and got this shot:

I took this with my cybershot T-1 a while ago and I really liked it ... in fact I printed it and put it up on my wall!

Well, it's not a problem to me... :)
I think it makes an interesting effect sometimes... You don't have to manipulate your shot afterwards. This pic is "as shot". But you're right, this setting is mostly unusable, but sometimes I use it to get something unreal to some pictures, just for fun... The "real" shot that I took just after this one is quite flat compared to this one.

Heres one I took near the Concord Point Lighthouse in Havre de Grace, Maryland. Originally in color but converted to B&W with PS7. I still think the light it a little too bright but I don't know how to fix that. And for some reason all of my photos that i resize tend to look a little blurry.

http://www.grayrentz.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=355&g2_serialNumber=2

Its not quite that dramatic when small, but I have it blown up as a 24x36 print and it is stunning.

Too badly it was a hazy day on the way back, this is another from the Canyon that I liked (looking at all the people looking out :):

So I DEFINITELY would not consider myself a landscape photographer... but I did snap a few while on a trip to India last year. It was sunrise, on the Ganges river in the city of Varanasi.

Here they are... both taken with a digital rebel XT and an 85L.

I was looking for sunset pics for the other best and I realized, i only had one set. The rest are actually sunrise. I saw this beauty one morning while driving to my store at 6 int he morn. Already worked 2hrs and well, stopped for some fresh air and a few pics. Very slight contrast added, but other than that, it's how the sky looked that morn.
