Post your best landscape photos here. I want to see them all :)

Screamer

I'll play!

Shot on the Western shores of Oahu, the sky is a combination of both the Sun setting and a wild brush fire's smoke heading off to sea. I waited for about 20 minutes for the boat to arrive at center of the setting sun. It doesn't follow traditional rules of composition, but I think it works for this shot.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I also used a B+W Circular Polarizer, IIRC.

Out of 4000+ landscapes shot this year alone, this is unlikely to be the best. However, it is a favorite because of the effort required to get it. We drove 75 miles or so out of our way, then hired a Jeep and driver to take us the last 6 miles (more than an hour) on the roughest trail I've been on. But, it's a classic scene from Colorado, the Crystal Mill.

Alot of luck and a circular polarizer. I try to use it on alot of the scenics when the sky has alot of clouds in it.

I actually don't do a whole of photoshop work on them other than minor levels and sharpening. I really stink at photoshop.

You won’t find any argument here about the beauty of Yosemite.

Every time I go, that is one of my favorite spots to hit up, except for a while last year they had North Side Drive closed for construction.

Top of the mountains overlooking Chilliwack, BC Canada..... we 4x4 up there a couple of times a year... and this time it was a nice clear day. It's about 1.5 hrs from the Pacific Ocean... and there is a peak just a bit higher that you can see the ocean from on a clear day. (not too may clear days anymore because of Vancouver's smog working it's way towards Chilliwack).

Nice work, ATucker. HDR?

All are panos.

The first is 4 pics. Yes, it is hdr. 3 different exposures per frame. 1/4, 1/10, and 1/50 seconds at f5.0. I first created 3 panos at the 3 different exposures then blended the panos together using density (tone) masks with PWP.

The second is a 4x2 pano. Also hdr, similar process to the first with two exposures per frame.

The third is cropped from a 5 pic pano, single exposure only.

I have flown into D.I.A. numerous times and thought it was one ugly airport with the big white "tents". Now looking at it from this perspective they look like teepees. I wonder if thats what they intended all along and I never realized it.

Awesome pics but I'm not familiar with PWP and HDR. I'd love to try to do what you did but I need to know your terms or speaking.

HDR= High Dynamic Range

A general term for various techniques to increase the dynamic range of an image by by taking several different exposures of the same scene (using a tripod) then blending the exposures into a single image. One method is to use tone masks, which is what I did. Another is to use the hdr function in PS CS.

PWP (http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/digital-blending.shtml)=Picture Window Pro. It is the software I use for editing images and in the case of these images, to digitally blend them using tone masks.

Hi Michael:

Did you get the PM I sent you?

Tom
yes thank you so much! I love that program PTassembler. I've managed to make a 2X3 pano with two exposures for each frame and it came out pretty nice. Boy that really lets me hold off on getting a full frame camera.

I think a few people have commented on Atuckers photos as being mine. they are not mine they are his, and they are from a canon G5. Amazing! Tucker, I made a 3 frame panorama with 3 exposures for each frame. Came out okay. Need more practice. But there is so much potential. The problem I'm running into is that my exposures are too far apart and it's hard to blend them and have them look natural. Do you use the gausian blur method or the painted layer mask?

For blending images I basically use the process described here:

I think i'm going to switch from 500 dollar software to 40 dollar software
thanks so much for opening my eyes about what a 300 dollar camera can do with 40 dollar software compared to a 1400 dollar camera and 500 dollar software. You've definitly taken the cake and that's just awesome. Great work.

Taken in Banff, October of 2004. Your pictures all have me sitting in awe. Mine isn't nearly as good as many of yours, but I'm still proud of this one. I used the bridge going over the river as my tripod to keep the camera steady.

But, it's a classic scene from Colorado, the Crystal Mill.

just awsome! iam a city person, but i could live in a place like that!
