View Full Version : Strange behavior setting CF 4 in 10D

Has anybody else noticed the following behavior with the 10D when trying to set the CFn-4 to 1: AE lock/AF?

If CFn-4 is initally set to 3: AE/AF, no AE lock and then you switch to 1: AE lock/AF and use the Menu button twice to exit out of the menu, pressing the shutter button half way does not cause AE to lock (no * is displayed in the view finder).

However, if, instead of using the menu button to exit after selecting 1: AE lock/AF, you just press the shutter button to exit the menu, then AE lock works just fine and as "advertised" when the shutter button is pressed halfway.

I've tried this many times and the behavior is repeatable. I was just wondering if it's just my camera of if other people experience the same thing with their 10Ds.

I tried this and the camera (serial 032xxxxx) works as you described.

OK, thanks. Looks like a firmware bug but as long as it's not just me, I'm not going to worry too much about it since I have a circumvention for it.

What was worrying me the first time before I discovered this glitch was that fact that I couldn't get my 10D to AE lock when I set CFn-4 to 1. But the manual indicated that I should be able to AE lock with the 1 option. So I thought maybe my camera was defective. That's the reason I went back to using the * button for AE lock. Until I gave it another try (because I wanted to use the * button for focusing) and then it mysteriously worked.
