I had a great opportunity to shoot at one of Detroits finest and oldest theatres Friday night. Superchumbo aka Tom Stephan was the DJ and headliner for the event . A Scaled down revamped more intimate version of the State Theatre.

The production company brought in a great light set up and had a lighting director control the rig, that created a great atmosphere. I only shot for the first 30 minutes of the headliner, since it was in his rider.

All 55 Photos can be seen here http://www.ekreating.com/gallery/index.php?groupid=1

Critiques and comments welcome!

I love the 10-22, and it does well in low light

my 28-105 does a good job, when I don't want to attract to much attention with my 70-200IS

A little lens flar or smudge in the middle, but still a good wide shot

Just look at the set up . The Chandelier, marble pillars, Velvet drapes and other projection sscreens created a great look

Cool photos, the wide shots look great........a shame you were'nt able to photograph later with more of a crowd, would have looked great with the lighting.

I think you captures the spirit of the event VERY good.

The front focus in the first one bothers me, Eric, as I am unable to deal with "near eye in focus" rule breakage but I like the others and love the last one! I also like my 10-22mm for lots of various reasons ... wish I could use it on my 1D Mark II even though I have the 16-35mm f2.8L (which I rarely use). My most recent use was a 3200+ frame timelapse sequence for a boxing match at the casino ... I think I got it right this time, sigh.

Haven't heard from you much lately ... everything OK? I am moved to my new home and am simply totally overwhelmed at the moment.

They're all solid but two and three work best for me. I like the perspective you've used in number 3 and the slight tilt of the camera really serves to complement it well. Great shot IMO

I like rule breaking, and the focus point on the first one was on his hands since I was having trouble getting them nice and crips in the others, and i also wanted the switches and nobs more in focus.

As for me, I am doing pretty good just been pretty busy, I shot a Cross country meet last Saturday also, and working on a few other projects, but my mind has been on other things lately with my work and house hunting. I will be swtiching companies withiin the next 6 weeks, and will have to wait to buy the house till afterwards. But with the new job, much more responsibilities and longer hours are in store for a little while, until I get settled.

I was kinda getting in a rut with my photography till this shoot here, but I am glad I got some new photos that I like. I am also working on a new project with a freind who is starting her own clothing label so I will geta chance to shoot some fashion and product shots, which I will be working with another photographer who has a nice light set up and is experienced in fashion, but I am the main photog. :) I will get to learn, branch out, and make some nice money, and help a friend out.

I saw the hands in focus and guessed as much but it "offends" my eye! :-) Everything else sounds good ... glad to know you are not having life issues of the bad kind.

I love the psychedelic colors of the first photo, especially the way they bathe the fingers. Groovy man! The last two remind me of the Animusic videos somehow. Great pics!
