I want to purchase an inexpensive CF card reader, but all the ones I have seen so far do not say if they will work with WinNT, I hope to have WinXP in the near future, so I really need one that works with both.
Any idea???
I forget to mention I have an A40

I think the problem is that NT does not officially support USB,. and all the drives are USB,. at least most are.
Is it a desltop or laptop? I ask because if it were a laptop the CF to PCMCIA card reader should work.
Do you have Firewire?
Also,. as an NT user,. you may know if MS has indeed released a USB update for NT. If it has,. you might try a USB reader?

Windows NT does infact have USB support with their SERVICE PACK 6. However, often it does not work properly and turns out to be a disaster. One other option is to find an older 9-pin serial card reader. But it is painfuly slow! Took me an hour to download 32mb of pics off my old Kodak. Best thing to do is to lose Windows NT.

I have an IXUS V and I used a CF to PCMCIA card adaptor (cost about $20.00 AUD at Teds cameras) and plugged it into the slop on my laptop. NT detects it as a removable HDD and you can then copy the files across using explorer. But if you have a desktop PC then that's no use is it??

I just remebereed that Antec used to make a parralel port version of the PhotoChute 2, which is the first card reader I ever had. Although still slow it is a good deal faster than serial ports.
I'll see if I can find it,. Lexar might have it too, as Lexars first dual slot reader was the same exact reader as the antec,. only purple.

No,.
THIS IS WHAT YOU WANT;
http://www.microtechint.com/qs-cmate.html
...it lists NT 4.0 :)
and it can be had here;

If that link doesn't work go to;
www.bhphotovideo.com
and find it under card readers. :)
There is also a SCSI model availble at B&H also made by Microtech,. but it costs more. If you have a SCSI port though, it would also be about the fastest reader around.

Is this a laptop or desktop? If it's a desktop and you have a spare drive bay just use an IDE card reader.
