Hello

I have a Canon Powershot A80. Lately, the indoor pictures I've taken have all looked very foggy, especially when taken without flash -- although those sometimes look foggy as well. I generally shoot in P mode but not always. The problem occurs in any mode.

Outdoor pictures seem okay generally. I use PaintShop Pro's auto enhancer and it takes the fog away, but sometimes it distorts the colours so I'd prefer to get it right in the first place: when I take the photograph!

Is this something simple (and probably stupid) like a setting I'm missing or something? My ISO is set to 400, red-eye is on, AiAF is on, digital zoom is off, resolution is set to Medium 1, white balance set to auto.

Thanks.

is it possible that the "fog" is noise? Have you tried using a lower ISO?

Or take a look at your lens. Is it smeared?

No, I don't think so. I've had noise on photos before and this is different. It's more like a smoky (white smoke) look. I've tried reducing the noise in Paintshop Pro but it doesn't do anything. I also know that the lens is not dirty, as it only appears on some photos and not others.

Grrrr. It's fixable with photo editing software, but irritating nonetheless. I'd really like to know what is the problem. And when I view the picture in the LCD it looks clear (or at least clearER)!

That's weird. Maybe lens flare, but who knows. Better post an example.

Could it be that my memory card is getting dodgy? I've only used the one card and just keep erasing the images once I copy them to my PC. Do they get 'overused'? It's a SanDisk 256 MB and is about 1.5 years old. I think I've probably recorded and erased about 500 images in that time.

I'll try posting an image if I can figure out how. Thanks for the suggestions.

I don't know if that would cause the problem you're having, but I've been told that it is better to reformat the card when you want to erase a whole batch of photos (rather than just erase), as that helps to prevent corrupt files.
