Do Compact Flash media cards vary in quality from manufacturer to manufacturer such that image quality could be effected.

I notice a vast difference in price....is this a case where one gets what they pay for?

If so, is there a manufactures that is highly recommended or perferred?

Thank you,

Leslie

I've used quite a few makes/sizes over the last couple of years and I don't see, and would not expect to see, any difference in the images recorded.
But a word of caution - if you plan to insert/remove the card(s) a lot (to use a card reader etc) - I have noticed that the cheaper ones seem to deteriorate quicker (not sure how to describe this, but the cards seem to go 'soft' and become a little too flexible for my liking) which I think leads to some problems I've had with contacts (but on both cheap and expensive cards used on different cameras) after the cards have been in and out over 30ish times. Be gentle removing or replacing the card...

I'd play safe and go for something with a decent brand name in the mid price range and see how you get on.

Hope this helps....

I have never heard of picture quality problems but have heard of defective cards. If you buy a unpopular name brand I suggest you shoot lots of nothing now and then just to make sure you can retrieve your images.
I almost never remove the card from my camera unless I need to. I download directly from my camera. I'm in no such hurry to use the speed of a card reader. To me it is just something else to occupy my desk. That is also why I use rechargeable batteries instead of a a/c adapter.

A CF-card will never effect your picture quality, because they just store bits and bytes or they don't. But off course there are differences between the cards, because my Nikon Coolpix refuses to work with DaneElec cards but works fine with SanDisk and Lexar.

In my Canon however I use DaneElec without any problems.
