I am considering getting this lens and was wondering if anyone is using it to shoot indoor sports. If so, are you pleases with the results and will it focus fast enough for Basketball. I have read a lot of post comparing the Tamron to the Canon and Sigma and at this time can not justify the Canon but am looking to get either the Tamron or Sigma in the next day or so. My main reason for getting this lens is not just sports but some other needs but if I could use it for indoor sports that would be great.

Thanks

From my experience with the lens I wouldn't recommend it if sports is a primary consideration. Its a great general purpose lens though. I would go with a small prime for indoor personally - like the 85 f1.8. Cheers.

I have one, love it to bits as a general purpose "walk around lens", but it's not a sports lens. The AF is *slightly* too slow.

Great lens, but any f2.8 or above lens is not situable for indoor sport. f2 will be a minimum requirment. As suggested by Croasdail, you probably want to get a prime lens (with f<2.0) and the focal lenght will be depedning on how far from the stand to the action.

For indoor sports, and depending on your ability to move and distance from the action, you want to stick to a good prime with fast AF like the 85 f1.8 or 135 f2 or if you can find one, the 200 f1.8.

agree that the focus is too slow indoors, but outdoors in decent light it's OK. >>>click me<<< (http://www.pbase.com/davideb/image/43949752) Maybe not as good as a fast prime, but OK.

Where are you sitting? 75mm seems pretty short for coach passangers. Front row seating is another story, however a longer reach would still be nice. Also; low light AF can certianly be slow and hunt around on that lense.
