Looking at this building, I remember my old calculus college courses. I think about all those long hours trying to find the area under a given curve and the exhilaration when I get a correct solution. I'm a closet nerd.
Photo taken at 42nd Street, Manhattan NYC.

BB, if you did not say it was a building, I would have thought of a tablecloth in that italian restaurant I used to frequent in my younger days when I could drink wine liberally with impunity. So, an additional visual (building) clue I do miss here. The context ?
Your college course in numerical integration, however fascinating ( ;) ) it might have been, tends to speak to very few in general photographic audiences. In an architects' convention, your image would undoubtedly win many smiles.
So, with the above reservations, I still like the curves and playful colours.

Sorry, should not have used the word "context" above. Instead, should have said "could not compute withing the area without knowing boundary conditions/values" ;)

i have never seen a building like this its crazy as petkal says he would of thought it would of been of some other image like a table cloth, you lined the image up well when taking it but the too the right, the top spiked bit the line is up and down. Is there where you sharpened it or just the building it self.
Nice photo!.

Wow, that took a bit of math and good architectural creativity.

Well, I hope you didn't have to find the volume rotating about the curve ;)
This is a great shot. Very geometrical (mathematical so to speak :D ). Amazing colors too.
I don't recall seeing a building like this on the east side. Where exactly is it???

Great eye BB:-) Nice colors and curves. And I'm glad this wasn't a Calculus test, I would have failed:-)

Considering that there are 32 windows across, and a curve of y=x2+x+1....
then the area under it is the intgral of the cosine times 2 .....
yes. it's 540 sqft.
Thank you.

Geez, just integrate it and move on! :-) Well seen and captured Bottom. "Closet Nerd?" I think your pocket protector and pens give you away quite easily.

Wicked! Is that a crop? I still can't figure out how that looks like a building. If it is a crop, can you post the full?

Thanks for looking! Petkal, you crack me up with your cryptic posts :) I deliberately zoomed in to focus on this part of the building where it is clear that mathematics played a great part in its design. Concentrating an a part of the whole makes one rethink his conception of the whole. Hopefully anyway :)

Thanks Leo! It's at 42nd at 8th Avenue, NW corner.

Thanks Tlee. A 100% crop revealed that the spikes are actually metal protrusions at the edge of the building. But when you zoom out they do look like sharpening artifacts.
Wow, that took a bit of math and good architectural creativity.
Thanks Maureen! It is an interesting building. Well, most building's are, when you take in everything that was put into it, such as aesthetic design, structural analyses, history, etc. Some more so than others.
Great eye BB:-) Nice colors and curves. And I'm glad this wasn't a Calculus test, I would have failed:-)
Thanks! I love capturing details of things. Often it portrays the whole in a new light.

Very funny Ray :) Are you a math teacher? Thanks for looking.

Thanks Dwight :) You forgot the slide rule!

Thanks! Ok, Dimitry, I will. This photo was taken at 200mm. I rotated it so it lays on its side, cleaned it up a bit and removed some obvious building parts to empasize the lines and color. I boosted the color a bit and rotated it again to staighten the horizontal, then trimmed the pic. A bit of USM and there you go.
Here is another photo of the building, in its proper orientation, at 70mm. Thanks for looking all.
