I need some guidance. I want to store my photos on a DVD. I've tried using Ulead DVD Movie Factory 4.0 (demo version). I want to burn a DVD but not close it so as I can add to it at a later time. I'm having many snags from error windows to the DVD drive not recognizing the burned DVD, etc.. There are many settings for burning the DVD withi the program. What I am looking for is someone who may have this program and can steer me to the correct settings or a recommendation for DVD software that is simple to use.
Thanks.

Why would you try to use an authoring program like Ulead DVD Movie Factory to burn a Data DVD? That program is primarily for authoring and burning video DVD's - not burning a Data DVD. This is not to say that it is impossible to burn a data DVD - they probably advertise that you can do that. However, that vendor is not as well known as Nero and Adaptec/Roxio, so you will have trouble getting help.
If you get a DVD burner as part of an integrated computer system, there is usually a Nero or an Adaptec/Roxio product also bundled in that is used for burning data DVD's.
So far as leaving the disc open (not finalized) is concerned, that is a procedure that is fraught with possible or potential problems - not the least of which is that the procedures are a little cumbersome - even from the two vendors I mentioned above.

I believe you can also just use the Windows XP wizard. Should burn them on DVD for you. I like the Nero software. :)

Geez you would hope. For a data DVD on the Mac you drag the file to the DVD drive and click burn. I know my Thinkpad (running XP) works similarly with CD's.

Dear Tom,
I'm a little slow on this one. I finally recognized the scene in your avatar. I made the pilgrimage to Peggy's cove about 25 years ago. At that time, I also was lucky enough to see the house on the way there that has the fisherman's net draped over it. That's really beautiful country . Oh, and by the way, I pulled into Halifax on a destroyer in the summer of 1950, but at that time I wasn't into photography, so all I did was drink up all the warm ale I could find - Hi!

I use Movie Factory 4 disc creator and burn data DVD's all the time. This comes with a suite of tools to do it all. You need to use the Burn.now 2.0 that comes with the program.
you may already know all this, but...
open Burn.now 2.0
select burn data disc and DVD

Insert your DVD. If you use windows, wait till the autoplay prompt surfaces and cancel out of it. I have found that sometimes you will get targeting errors if you don't wait for the prompt. Not sure why.
I would leave the default settings for data burning.
select burn

Thanks Crypto. I gave it a shot exactly as you explained but I'm still having problems. I'm beginning to think it may be my DVD writer. Here's why...I burned the data DVD but the drive will not recognize the DVD when I reinsert it to look at the files. The same for a Photo Slideshow I created. Both discs however work in another computer as well as our DVD player in the family room. The problem of course is I cannot view the files on my desktop to edit them.
Bob....have you been to Nova Scotia recently? I've attached an aerial photo of Peggy's Cove. Next time I'm down in Halifax I'll try to snap an aerial of the Harbour.

Thanks for the overhead shot of Peggy's Cove.
No, I haven't been there since 1978-79.
Just 3 years ago I spent a week in Montreal and Quebec City, and now I'm crazy about those two cities. But the maritimes are where the photos are.

Update...problem was with the DVD writer so I replaced it. New one will read the data DVD's I burned. Now I have another decision to make...Nero or Roxio!!

I've used both Roxio and Nero. I find Nero the better of the two but in reality both will do the job.

NERO!
You can do sooo much with the program; and get waaay more than your monies worth out of it; or just buy it for what you need to do now; and not learn any of the advanced features.
It's kinda like adobe; you can discover more features the more advanced you get.
