I'm looking at purchasing a B+W 10 stop ND. B&H has 2 listed in 77mm, one single coated, one multi-coated, with a cost difference of about $60.
Is there any actual practical difference between these that I will actually SEE?

I purchased one here, not sure which noe it was, stacked it with a HOYA ND400 and was getting excellent results on my 5D Mk II.......until I took them off, laid them down and walked off. Expensive mistake.

Anyway, will I see a difference with the MC?

A "coating" is designed to reduce glare and flare. A single coated filter has one layer of, usually, Magnesium Fluoride, which reflects most of the visible spectrum light and is quite effective..

A multi-coated filter uses different thickness of coatings to cover more of the light spectrum and is more efficient since the image can be affected by non-visible light too..

So, there is not a great difference between a single coated filter and a multi-coated one, but a great deal of difference from glass that is not coated at all...

Still, though, if there is no light entering at an angle that needs to be canceled (reflected); then the coating has little affect at all..
