Going to a co-worker's farewell dinner and would like to take some candid shots without looking like a goofball carrying a monsterous camera. How do you guys making it not so crazy? Body and smallest lens, on board flash only?

You have a 20D =) It's not *THAT* ginormous! Too bad you don't have a fast lens, do you think you can pick up a nice 50/1.4, 50/1.8 or maybe 35/2? With the high ISO capabilities you wont even NEED flash!

But don't worry about it, I took these shots

with my 300D (plus grip!) and 420EX at a nice posh restaurant. Nobody seemed to mind. Funny thing is, the girl sitting at the table over also had a 300D (or was it 350D, not sure)

I take my camera with my when I go out all the time.

I usually photograph in clubs and concerts so I am used to it.

My set up is usually a 20D, 580EX flash, and 28-105.

Take it, get some good photos, your friends will be thankful.

I shoot at ISO 800 most the time, with aperture around 6

Thanks, yeah I don't have a 1.8 lens, I'm stuck at 4.0... maybe sometime I will... I'm kind of weary of taking the 580Ex.. I would really like the take my 580EX and my lightsphere II but that would really be ridiculous. lol.

I should say that it's enormous compared to the super compact p&s cameras out there that I know others will have.

I take my camera out with me to bars all the time, and shoot anything that moves let alone people i know. I'm not in to flash photogrpahy though, so i use fast primes

maybe I can find someone here locally that sells that 50 1.8 for the same price as online.
